to use as a reference if you were thinking about re-installing Windows ( going from W2K to XP). I know there is something that I'm going to forget to do once I wipe everything out, so hopefully someone knows a good site to use as a guide. What have been your experiences with XP? I know this could/should be in the OS forum, but it's bordering on OT, and more people seem to reply in this forum anyway.

XP always has worked great for me.. never freezes or crashes, runs nice and smooth... detects all my hardware fine. I really don't think your going to forget much when you wipe your drive.. all you have to do is pop in the bootable XP cd and it will install it for you and most likely pick up and install all your hardware.

Don't know any websites (tacktech.com maybe?) but I can say that XP is just fine. It's just as good if not somewhat better than W2k with minor details, but the switch (if you have both OSs already) is worth the time if you're the experimenting type. Nothing bad to say about XP - even the interface can be adjusted to look like W2k.

I just took the plunge last month and I didn't have to really remember anything special going from W2k --> XP on a fresh install... maybe DNS settings of your ISP perhaps? Non-OS-related things like that.

Yeah I don't think there's much I'd forget. I suppose it's all a matter of backing up all of your important files and programs, and re-installing them later on. I preferred asking in here than in the OS forum because I think the more casual users are here and I'd like to hear their success and failure stories. I don't do anything special with my copmputer except download music, play games, etc.
