Anyone know alot about Riding Mowers?

Got a older Murray(roughly 8-10 years old). It starts fine but after a few mins I am having to put the choke on and then back off to keep it running. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

How hard is it to rebuild a carburetor could this be the problem?

Is the gas cap vented. If so, it may be clogged and not letting the pressure regulate in the tank. That can cause the symptoms that you are describing. If not, then it's a good chance that it's your carb. Carb kits for those are roughly $15.00. Not real hard to do.

Good call by Wes. Take the cap off and run it. If it keeps running correctly, that's the cuprit. Pry the filter from the inside of the cap, and make sure the pin hole is clear.

Eli can walk you through tuning the carb, but I bet that vent is the problem.
