Anyone know about this little device for tablet gaming?

Any touch screen game that requires a virtual joystick is doing it wrong.

which pretty much means every single game is doing it wrong. I haven't played a touch screen game that it worked nicely or smoothly on.

there's another device that's basically a gamepad that connects to your device. forget what's its called now though. think it starts with an "M"

I do find that 'touch screen' games are inherently limited/not nearly as good as PC games that can use a keyboard and mouse. They have to try to find the few games where that limitation is not very harmful to the game - I was just thinking this morning about RTS for example on tablet versus PC, and how it's hard to come close.

I haven't seen this device yet but it makes sense to me to look for improvement.

(One other issue seems to be the pricing where tablet games seem mostly limited to $2).

Extra Credits did a whole video on it.

It's a bit of a lazy way around things, since a lot of developers still don't realize the strengths and weaknesses of touch devices. They work best with one handed gameplay, mimicking natural actions.

o_O Oh my word, worst way to spend $25, well almost as bad as paying $60 for plastic paddles to add onto the Logitech GT wheel.

I agree on the price of it. Maybe I'd give $5, but was wondering if anyone had actually tried them or not to see if they'd be worth even that.

There is no forum really for this. There is no "tablet, small device gaming" forum. Soon as there is one, I'll post this there smart ass.

While you (kind of) have a point, it's literally a "mobile device" which we DO have a forum for. People also post mobile games in the console section too. They've never been considered PC games though, so his point is still valid.

I consider tablets closer to laptops, which at one point they were classified as, than consoles. I would consider this more for a tablet than a phone as the loss of screen space that would result from placing these on the screen would make any game on a phone unplayable. So these would be strictly for tablets as their advertisement shows. Hence the PC part. Tablets are basically portable personal computers like laptops. Even if there is a wider range of OS's for tablets than for most PCs.

I know what you mean, especially since we're having a resurgence of windows based tablets that are compared to their mobileOS competition often. It seems like iPhone/ipad related stuff goes to All Things Apple, Android tablets are discussed in MD&G, and windows tablets pretty much are laptops... and have been discussed in the Notebook forum.

We certainly don't make things easy here.

Which, windows 8 tablets that aren't RT, can install any regular PC game on them for gaming. Hence why I put it here after thinking that through first.

For regular "tablet/phone" games like angry birds you wouldn't want this device. It wouldn't work. The reason you would want a device like this would be for tablet games that are designed for tablet interface. Of which there are a crap ton more of those for Windows based tablets than anything else.

So again, the most appropriate place for this thread would be here.

I like the idea of tactile controls for some games. Most especially emulators that put an on-screen d-pad or joystick by necessity. However I've never been inclined to permanently adhere anything to my phone screen.

This thing looks nice but $25 is heinous. It had better last forever and have its own GPS so I can't lose it.
