Hello all. Long time no see. The wife has finally given me the OK to upgrade my video card. I have a P4 1.6a @ 2.2 on an Asus P4S533 mobo so I am limited to 4x AGP compatible card to replace my old Ti4200. I want a nice card that will work for gaming. Not hard core but mostly sports games.

Have any of you bought or heard of Elsa? I found what looks like a nice card (link below) from Elsa in my price range (about $200+-). Any opinions on this card or others that would fit the bill: about $200 w/ 4x AGP BUS would be appriciated. Thanks in advance.

Elsa, is my memory serves me correct, has been around for a while, just has never been a big player. They dont make alot of cards. As far as the quality of them.... I cant say, havent owned or heard anything about them. There are namae brand cards for cheaper. Such as XFX. Great cards. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-150-085&depa=0 . That one is $11 cheaper than the elsa, and a more known and trusted brand. Its also got Dual DVI which is a plus, and I think the blue PCB and silver cooler make it look much better. If you dontt care about any of that, go with the Rosewill for $174. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-164-039&depa=0 . They arent the most acclaimed brand, but I dont think its becauase there bad cards, just not a big name....but neither is Elsa. If you are concirned about getting a card based soley on a top brand, then get the leadtek for $187 or the evga for $189. Both are highly acclaimed and trusted brands.

ELSA made amazing cards. Their GLADIAC card based on the GeForce 256 was widely considered to be the best available at it's time, neck and neck with the venerable Gainward.

Since then, ELSA pulled out of the American market, but who knows, maybe they're coming back.

Thanks guys. Good info and what I wanted. Also will those other 2 (XFX and Rosewell) work with my 4x AGP slot? They say 8x but after digging deeper I see the Elsa says 4x/8x. Thanks again.

Well, logically they would work at 4x AGP, but I cant confirm that for sure, havent tried. Anyone else know?

Well based on the above posts I have decided Elsa has been around long enough and has a good enough rep. to buy the card. I will let you know the results.

A brief history of ELSA: A German company that came to a good reputation for video products. Monitors and Videocards. The company went bankrupt 4 years ago due to bad management. In it's prime though Elsa established a few sub-companies around the globe. The Taiwanese branch now has the rights to the ELSA brand and is marketting and producing the cards themselves.

Got the card looks great but??....

I just bought an Elsa GT660 4x/8x AGP card. I replaced my old Ti4200. Install went fine but when I bootup everytime I get a message saying it does not have enough power and had to lower performance settings troubleshoot says connect external power etc etc... Picture still looks great though. I cannot see an external power connector on the card and the manual has nothing about it either? I also cannot find where to up AGP power any help would be great specs below.

Mobo: Asus P4s533 w/ intel 1.6A
Video: Elsa Gladiac 6600
Power: 400 watt
Normal stuff USB...

Any help here?

for one, i told you to get leadtek. always take advice rather than using your own judgement. Anyone here could tell you that leadtek has the best 6600gt out there (maybe besides BFG with their warranty) and is not prone to breaking. I recommend RMAing it and getting a leadtek...

as for actual help from me, you either need a better power supply (400watts means nothing. give us the specs on the side of the psu), you got a broken card, you didnt install it correctly, or you didnt install the molex connector correctly (do not use it from the hard drive)

i'm assuming you did the above....but man, why did you just go and buy that because they are a good company? there are MANY 6600gt's that suck, even from GOOD companies, just because of the design of the card. Read up and take advice.

I bought the card because I only comfirmed for sure it was 4x compatible may have messed up but needed to make sure it was able to run 4x AGP. My power supply is a 400watt from a Chieftec case I bought when I built the computer.
Edit I'll have to get specs once I open up the case again. I am not a computer tec and read the above post about backwards compatible after I purchased. My bad.

the psu is probably weak, but ought to be ok...

just for grins, when u open up the case unplug the cd/dvd and any extra fans and such then boot up and see if problem goes away... if reducing the load on the psu helps, time for a new one...

and be sure u got the vid card plugged into the slot real good... i have a bad habit of getting them cocked a little sideways...

and feel free to tell hans to chill... if u want to get bitched at u would have asked your wife for advice, eh?

I found the power plug on the back of the card and it works great now. Stupid me 😱

Missed the connector on the back. So far so good.

Yeah, new gen cards are power hungery beasties. You need to plug in some extra juice for them to work right. Glad you solved the problem 🙂 Enjoy your better frame rates.

ok, well yeah every 6600gt should be 4x compatible...

it's a good thing it is working now...if you have any problems with it and have to RMA it, try to get leadtek 😉

but congrats on having a working 6600gt now, you will be pleased!
