Anyone know about construction? How much support am I losing?

Literally going outside the box, how about putting the speaker on a small shelf above the tv on the wall?

Nah, I don't really like the way it sounds below/above the tv. It will be about 9" tall.

1)What kind of plywood should I get? Birch plywood?

2)Could I just use that with the L-brackets and glue and nails?

3)How far should the edges hang off of the feet (overhang)? Is 2" enough?

I'm sick of this!

IF I get more board, it still wouldn't come out to anywhere bear that much. I needed a piece of the MDF for a subwoofer isolation riser so I needed to get the whole board anyway. Even if I spend more for another board, it wouldn't be more than $20. So total I'll have spent like $30-40 for wood and materials (for two things).

Where are all my budding carpenters from last night?!?

Wait, so this is from scratch? I was just assuming you wanted to modify an existing piece of furniture. If you are building this from scratch, definitely use plywood and L brackets as suggested. Now that I think of it, you'll want to add braces at the bottom too between both supports. At least one, but two is better. If you were to just drag that slightly across the floor it would want to collapse, the braces will prevent that.

Yup, definitely from scratch. So I should definitely NOT use the existing MDF board I have to build it?

So I built it and it fits!

I tried taking your advice as much as I could.

I used TV riser B so I wouldn't have to buy more wood, glued the pieces together, screwed three #10 2" screws down vertically on each side, used 4 L-brackets about an 1-1/2" in with 4 #8 3/4" screws in each one. Then, there was a 2-2-1/2" piece that was as long as the entire thing, so I glued it to the back and screwed it in with 6 #10 2" screws. This piece was screwed into the feet and into the top board, and acted as a skirt/brace/lip. The glue was liquid nails.

The damn thing is solid and fits almost perfectly!

Now I just need to figure out how to cover it with a black fabric and figure out where to buy that fabric!

Or buy flat black spray paint and paint it. go to fabric places, they will have the cloth you want, you can just glue it or stable it.

So...i messed up my measurements. I'm building a TV riser to put my TV on top of and my huge center speaker underneath of. How much structural integrity/strength/support/whatever would i lose (if any) by going from TV riser A to TV riser B? The TV + stand weighs 76.5 lbs.

Sorry for the weird view, I havent built them yet and I was just trying to see what it would look like (I flipped the images).

THANKS!

Dude. You live in a bordello?

Yep that should be good. Only thing I'd change is add some kind of support under it, something solid such as what you did in front is optimal, but even something like plumber's tape will help. It will help keep the supports from separating. The L brackets will help that to a certain extent though.

I was thinking I'd take some of that stuff that we have under our rugs (i have some extra) and maybe taping it under there, or even a shelf-liner just so its gripped really well to the table. The plumbers tape is a really good idea though, thanks.

Also lol @ ironwing.

Do you ladies wanna see the final carpeted product?

It kind if split in the back when I put the screws in the skirt/brace...kind of pissed me off. It's still solidly on there and glued but I have no idea why that happened since it happened no where else.
