Anyone know a reason why my keyboard quits working while the mouse still works

when the PC running Windows 8.1 pro comes out of screen power off. I plugged in a USB keyboard in addition to my PS2 keyboard and all three times my login would not show keyboard input, I reboot the computer and everything works fine. But as I stated this has happened three times already and I will bet it will do it again if I don't fix it.
Thank you

There is probably a setting in your BIOS to accept keyboard/legacy input the needs to be adjusted. Also, if you are using a third-party port (Asmedia, for example), it may not work until Windows has loaded the driver for it.

why would the USB keyboard plugged into a USB3.0 port not work either? I only plugged it in because there was nothing happening with my regular keyboard. It is an Intel USB port.

Legacy USB being disabled could cause this to happen.

Look into the settings regarding what gets powered down when the computer sleeps?

There are some USB settings in the advanced area of Windows power settings.

There may also be something in the BIOS.

It's not just the USB keyboard, it is my PS2 connected keyboard as well.
Thank you

It's got an ASRock motherboard a Fatal1ty X99X Killer
I never had any problem until I flashed the BIOS to the latest version.
Another thing is is that I cleared the CMOS and everything reset...except my password to the BIOS. It is still in there.

You might try to re-flash the BIOS, or to revert back to see if it is a bug in the new BIOS.

Try changing the PS/2 keyboard wake setting in the BIOS. Whatever it's set to, change it.

I changed the PS2 setting from auto to enabled.
It seems to have gotten rid of the keyboard messing up after the OS is loaded but it still will not enter the BIOS. I have it set to fast(not ultra) boot in the BIOS I wonder if that could be causing it, although that would not explain why a USB keyboard works and it doesn't.
