Anyone know a good way to get rid of mosquitos

My mom, for some odd reason, absolutely hates using the AC. She is unbelievably stubborn with this. I never understood why, but if any of us turn it on she runs to the controller and shuts it off. We offered to cover any increase in the bill but she constantly refuses. Instead, she opens the windows and doors to "cool down the house". All it does is let mosquitoes and other bugs in, but theres no convincing her so I give up.

Sprays work for a short while, but I'm thinking something along the lines of an effective trap or a repellent that works indoors with no harm to humans.

sorry i can't help, i never get bit by mosquitos 🙁 i can be out with a buddy of mine fishing and he gets eat up but they just land on me, walk around, then fly off

On the odd chance i catch one drinking my blood, i swat it and kill it, but even then don't get a red bump or anything

Tried screens, but we have two cats and they tear the shit out of them trying to get in/out through the open windows. Man I hate those cats.

What is more important to you, the cats, or your health?

You seem to be a sensible person, so I am going to go ahead and advise you NOT to use a firearm, its very messy. :frown: Something like a shovel will be enough.

If you have standing water outside, on birdbaths, pools, containers, etc., pour them out. Mosquitoes like to hang around in water.

Actually it's that they breed in water. Once they hatch they just stay in the current location, so if they've already hatched it's too late. Bats do a good job, but it takes a long time to establish a colony large enough to make a difference.

Get screens and do whatever you have to do to keep the cats away from them. Use regular screens on the outside of the window and rig chickenwire cages around the inside if necessary.

You don't have screens on the windows? That is pretty much a must if you want to open your windows when it's hot out.

Avoid indoor lights where possible, or at least, have a really powerful light turned on away from where you are. They'll all go there and eventually drop dead. A pic may help a bit too. (those green spiral thingies you light up like insense)

Actually, now that I think of it, I haven't taken a look at my neighbors pool since I got back. They usually let it go and it gets REALLY nasty.

Instead of spending money on chemicals - a temporary solution that you'll have to repeat, why not spend the money on the screens specially made for people with cats like yours. They're not that expensive. If you don't know how to replace the screen material, it's rather simple. Google for instructions. There's a cheap $2 tool you'll need.

Bars + screens. 😛

Or maybe see if you can find a source of metal screens, rather than easy-to-tear plastic or composite.

Or else get yourself a mosquito tent for your own room, and let everyone else get eaten alive.

Keep a shotgun handy for when the mosquitos grow large from all that nutritious human blood.

What kind of shithole do you live in where you have no window screens and your cats come/go through the open windows?

You can get window screen made of either steel or aluminum wire. MUCH more cat-resistant than the fiberglass stuff that most are made from. (I have a roll made out of stainless steel that I use for odds and ends)
