Anyone know a colorblind policeman?

My friend is bummed because he just found out he's colorblind and the local police department doesn't take colorblind applicants. Is this true pretty much everywhere?

I sure hope so!

As far as I know, you cant join the military if you are color blind. You get tested for it at MEPS. Most police departments have similar rules.

Yeah, there's this one guy who can't tell red and green apart, he always runs the red lights.

That was terrible. You need a 5 minute break from ATOT

I heard somewhere that you can't become an EE if you're colorblind, althought I'm an EE student and no one's ever inquired about it.
I imagine it has to do with colors...

There are different stages of color blindness. Some are very mild and make no difference. It depends on the colors that you cant tell apart.

A poem by MichaelD. Dedicated to KingNothing and his Colorblind Policeman thread.

The colorblind policeman
He can't see sh!t
He'll shoot at anything
Whatever he sees fit

Red light, green light
1-2-3
He'll shoot at you'
He'll shoot at me

The colorblind policeman
In the public eye
He's a handicapped dude
With a color blind eye

He has a disability
He can't see shi1t
He needs to give out a ticket
Tag, motherfvker, you're it

Thank you, thank you. I"m here thru Sunday. 😎

In the major city near where I live that would be a viable excuse at one intersection!

My dad is red-green colorblind. It wouldn't matter anyway though - you'd have to be pretty stupid to not be able to tell that the green light is on the bottom. You just sit still while the top light is lit up.

I have a friend that is the same way. He can tell during the day but is not allowed to drive at night because you cannot tell where the source of the light is with such little ambient light around it.

I'm colorblind and I could see where it could be a hindrance to a cop's job besides the traffic signal problem.

My ability to pick out objects when relying on a difference in color is nowhere near as good someone who isn't colorblind. Gathering evidence, administering first aid, and search and rescue are some of the first things that come to mind.

What if you are color blind and dyslexic? Huh? What you gonna do then? Huh? Tell me Mr. know everything. 😀

lies...the military definately took colorblind people.

they make great laser-guided missle aimers (B&W screen)

they also made some fame during the WWII days flying the B-52's and targeting the bombs.

maybe thats different today but i do respect color blind people who served

How about maybe B17's........ B52's didn't get into the military until the 50's.

Yes, you can. I signed for the USAR on 12/10/2004 and failed the color vision tests miserably. The only catch is that you are restricted from most MOSs. Also, it is my understanding that you can be an officer as well, but are again restricedd from many areas.
