Posted this question in another thread too, but didn't get an answer there, so I'll give it a thread of its own.

A colleague needs to test the quality of Netmeeting at different speeds, and therefor would like to be able to put a specific limit on his bandwidth while being on the local network. Modem speed, DSL, cable, stuff like that.

Heh.. I suppose you could always go the expensive route: Connect PC to router, configure Fixed Rate-Limiting on router, test..
 
Thought about that too, about installing a FreeBSD firewall just for this test, but I was hoping there would be a cheaper/easier solution than that.
 
I've posted this same topic - so that I could limit uploads on a certain port for Direct Connect - because with cable uploading at my capped speed KILLS my download........

Unfortunately nobody knew of anything, and I came up empty handed too.

I tried to get the ATOT guys to program one from scratch, but nobody wanted to help us all hog bandwidth.

I don't suppose you can do this on a Netgear RT311.
 
I am able to do it using a FreeBSD firewall, but then I need to run a Netmeeting server on it too 🙁

I think the project is ditched anyway atm, as they noticed what I had told them a few times already, namely that Netmeeting sends the IP address of both computers to eachother, bluntly ignoring the fact that one or both of them may be behind a firewall. (Which was the case, causing one side to receive audio and video, and the other side only being able to get the chat).

If I had the time for it I would be willing to write it myself, but I'm afraid I am too busy with work to lead a real life atm, let alone to code something (we don't need it _that_ badly if Netmeeting wont work anyway).
 
There is a service called QoS which let you set bandwith limitations in windows it is built in, there is aservice that called RSVP that talks to QoS , look it up in MSDN
 
For those who do not have an MSDN subscription, and who have tried to search for something on the MSDN- or the TechNet site once already, (and for the lazy ones among us 😉 ), what options/flags can be used with RSVP? Can't seem to find it 🙁
