I figure if I can't find a job or getting nowhere I would always join the Armed Services. I'm sorry, but I don't feel comfortable being like 1/200 that is Asian or something.

What nationality are you? You can get in with a HUGE bonus if you can speak Korean or Chinese. They have this bullshit program called Stripes for Skill in which if you're fluent in a language, you get your sergeant stripes within a month of graduating your AIT (which is bullshit). Go ask you recruiter about 97 and 98 series.... 97 series are counter intel agents...they wear civilian clothing and gather intel....98 series are voice interceptor/ analysts....If you wanna earn money, use the Army to pay for a 1 year roundtrip to your homeland, live an wanton life in a country in Asia, Army is the way to go.

Very cool :) I almost decided to go 33W (Military Intelligence Systems Maintainer/Integrator), but in spite of the total $17K enlistment bonus (I get $6K now), I decided I didn't want to be a glorified tv repairman. And the 31F looks like a field job (networking the TOC, I believe); I might at some point even do Airborne, but we'll see.

31F is a better MOS than 33W, especially if you decide to get out after your initial enlistment. My wife and I were 31P's. She worked at a red switch (i.e. general's phones) facility at Fort Bragg with 31F's and she got offered a job 6 months before she got out making over $50k doing red switch at the Pentagon. A side benefit was a TS/SCI clearance which has helped both of us immensely in the job market.

D

One thing I definitely liked was the security clearance. During my job search, I found that a lot of open positions required one, so if I do end up leaving after the four years, I should be in good shape.

No plans to join, not even thinking about it. Army don't have any incentives that would interest me to join

Damn.. you sound like Jerboy..

So the Army isn't for everyone. It's not a big deal, you just need to look at what it has to offer and decide whether that's something that you're interested in working with. If not, no problem.

I am starting OTS on July 1!

Nice. I'm trying to get more information (registeration, what I need to do, etc.) but there's no Air Force Officer Recruiter near me! I've tried contacting me by email and talked to a few other recruiters, but they're not that much help since it's not the same branch . . . but I have a year to figure this stuff out, I suppose. ;););)

Wow. That sounds awesome. I'm Korean, but too bad I'm not fluent. I just know enough to get by.

Another question. Is there any option to decide where you are going located?

I would like to live a normal life more or less, not living in some barracks with ten million other guys or so forever in some place like Texas or something ;)

Geez. 2 years + 6 years reserve?! Army's bitch for 8 years!!! lol. I was thinking more of the lines like 4 or so. Ouch.

I'm officially joining ROTC on the 7th (I've been in the program for about 4 weeks now but haven't signed the paperwork yet. I have to do some sort of counceling first and the earliest session was the 7th of May).

heck yeah.. first of all, you can skip the first two years of rotc which are kinda bs anyways.. i was in the program and learned not much. so you join a reserve unit for two years.. then when you have 4 or 5 semesters left, you join the SMP program (similtanious membership program) you get plucked from your reserve unit (keep in mind that you've been getting reserve pay/gi benefits this whole time), and placed in a new one as a patrol leader and get paid as a master seargant, plus a kicker, plus the GI bill. And you are not allowed to be deployed because of your cadet status. If i stick with school, thats what im doing.

Well, I'm already skipping the first two years. I am going to be a junior this next year. So I was planning on going to LTC this summer (leadership training camp... it replaces the first two years of ROTC).

hehe, why not? im sure their is a mail clerk spot open for you

Its just not my thing. I would rather die of natural causes or doing something I like, and I never want to have to go to war. If they ever drafted people in Canada, or whatever they call it here, and I got drafted I would not go.

Most likely, you will not have much choice regarding how you will die. If, however, you have moral objections to the specific line of work that the military does, you should not be a part of it.
