Hello, my name is Craig Oley. I am interested in gathering up some skilled webmasters and starting a webpage of pretty much any topic. I know that there are lots of people out there with ideas for websites and that there are a lot of ideas that don't already have websites made for them, so I know that most of the people on this forum are skilled enough to help me in creating a new idea and website. So basically you want a group of developers to design and create a website for you? And why would they want to do that? Are you an investor? person with great contacts, etc. etc. I can just see it. 3 or 4 developers sitting around wishing they could put together a new, awesome, never done before website, but have no place to start. And then they see it, your inspiring post about starting a website about something or anything with you at the helm. What motivation!! Where do I sign.

Oh , I also have a question. My name is coder1, I'm interested in starting my own hospital or bank, or any large corporation for that matter. If you have any money or any education in one of these areas, please email so we can work out the details of the stuff you need to do for me so this can happen.
 
No, obviously you didn't get it. I want discussion about this. I am a good webmaster myself and I know a good bit about creating websites, but I am not too incredibly creative when coming up with ideas. The only one I could think of would be a database of articles submitted by people on pretty much any topic they wanted and then could be viewed by anyone who visits the site. See, my ideas aren't great. And I can make webpages fully on my own. I am not saying that I am the greatest webmaster in the world, but Jesus I do know a good bit more than the average schmoe... So, if you guys want to rant and rave and make fun of me because you didn't understand my intentions, then go away, otherwise I would apreciate it if I could get some actual feedback.
 
The problem isn't finding templates for a website. I can design the fine by myself, but the thing is that websites are better upkept with more than one person so that updates can get up and everything and it is good to have ideas from more than one person. At least that is my opinion.
 
So are you hosting this site on your own hardware, or on some restrictive webhosting service? Would a developer have free reign to use any web technology available? Would this be a tech-related website? Do you plan to start a forum (somewhat like AT forums or rallispec's forums)? If you do start a forum, would your developers write the forum software (which would be challenging and fun)?

Give out a basic idea of what you would want, and maybe we can try and expand on your idea a bit. 🙂
 
Basically, the one idea that I had that I thought might work rather well is to have a nicely designed site for other users, some not being exactly the most technically inclined, come and write and article to be listed on our site for others to feel free and come and read. Also, I am interested in having a forum on the site for people to discuss articles and any other topics that they want to discuss. Then the articles can have replies to them and such... I was thinking of having hosting to get started from somewhere like portland.co.uk or some other free site that gave CGI access and stuff like that. Tell me what you think...

Note: I am also open to other ideas.
 
so its like a world wide opion/editorial paper, where people write in what they think and discuss others thoughts? 😀
 
I like that idea a lot. You also might want to consider Dixiesys hosting for $3.95 a month. It's pretty popular with the Anandtechers (including myself). The thing about your idea is that there is a site like that called Post Get
 
Yeah, that sucks that that idea is already spoken for. Does anyone else have any other ideas that they would like to get into or is there anyone that wants to help me at all?

Basically all the sites I've seen have already been created so I don't know how many new ideas there are still out there. 😀

Find a subject that you truly enjoy, specialize as much as possible to create a niche, find others who share the same interests, and build on it. Sites that are jack of all trades and masters of nothing generally fade quickly, if they ever hit the spotlight.
