I am currently repairing a xe500t and can confirm it can only boot EFI. I haven't done a bios update yet, I have my doubts, I will report back when I finish the repair.

Samsung is utter garbage when it comes to the BIOS, their laptops are just as bad. But I don't think all win8 tablets will be like this.

Edit: Did I BIOS update still only EFI boot. I am curious if the ACER w510 is any better.

For a device like that, if they didn't bake in BIOS compatibility modules then it's doubtful they ever will. Since the minimum supported OS (officially, anyhow) is EFI capable, that's technically all it needs.

Thankfully Win7 is equally EFI capable as long as you add the appropriate module to the installer.

Although Win7 supports touch out of the box, its far from optimized for touch. The onscreen keyboard is very slow and laggy. UI elements (especially on an 11" screen) are small and hard to touch with any precision. The biggest downfall by far is the ridiculously laggy on screen keyboard.

If you don't like the start screen or want to reinstate the start menu, there are hacks for that. Especially on a clover trail CPU, you'll want to keep win8 because it has better memory management and graphics are optimized to put less strain on the CPU, which is a big deal because clover trail doesn't have a whole lot of cpu to share.

I've tried doing a clean install of win8 on my think tab 2 but haven't been able to get the machine to boot from my usb stick yet.
