May end up in Stamford, CT for work. Not sure if I'm going to live there or out west a little like White Plains.

Anyone in these two areas? Thoughts?

stamford was rated 46 out of the top 100 places to live last year

i grew up in Ct, and had a lot of friends who worked in stamford after college. it's a nice town. i never got down there much though. sorry.

stamford is in fairfield county which is one of the wealthier areas of connecticut. Lots of restaurants, bars and clubs in the area. Many young professionals in the area also. The best part is it is like 15 dollars(possibly less) round trip train to manhattan. and about 10-15 minute drive to the NY state border. North Jersey is about 25 mintues away.

Cons: Interstate 95 absolutely blows in conneciticut.

I work in Stamford now, and honestly...it sucks.

sure there are a few bars, and a few restaurants...but this area is seriously ghetto. if it weren't for the few big companies here, it would be even worse off.

lol stamford is ghettoooooo ahahahhahahahha what does that make bridgeport?

Stamford is a place to work, not to live. It's got a few ritzy areas that are old money, some overpriced apartments for the yuppies downtown and lots of slums. If you wind up working in Stamford you probably want to look at other places to live and commute in. Of course commuting is a major hassle too. You can get into Stamford via I-95 or the Merritt Parkway and both suck during rush hour.

bridgeport is even more ghetto i hear...i've never been so i can't judge...

but dude, you walk two blocks past the Stamford MetroNorth station and all you see is ghetto...sure RBS is building an office here...and theres Thomson, and all these other big finance companies...but seriously...i've walked around the neighborhood after work sometimes...and it just blows....

The mall over here sucks,it only has 3 options in their food court...and as for other possible food choices, its nearly non existant.

Stamford sucks for living.

Westport, Fairfield, Darien, and Southport are for living.

Then again, you have to be making some serious cash to live in those areas seeing home prices are through the roof.

parts of norwalk(sono) aint half bad either.

you certainly can't buy any houses cheap but rentals are reasonable with roomates espcecially.
