Anyone in an ATT 4G LTE area?

Speeds are crazy fast!

This was near I-895 Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Throughway. The phone showed a signal of 85% or so, LTE.

Device is an HTC Vivid. Probably only a handful of these floating around hence the insane speeds. I have unlimited data (har har!) but I can see people hitting their caps REAL fast with this kind of speed.

Live in a coverage area in the Chicago suburbs, and what is supposed to be a pretty good coverage area, but don't have a device yet. Gonna pick up a GSII Skyrocket soon.

Pretty cool.

Also curious about battery life, heavy use vs normal usage. Supposingly ATT's LTE is better with battery life since it only uses 1 radio for LTE and GSM vs 2 seperate through verizon.

The problem I have with this is will AT&T fix up their 3G network still? I'm looking at you Las Vegas.... I couldn't get signal for like 20 minutes after I landed, as it kept dropping off 3G, and switching back and forth. I finally fixed 2G for the whole trip and I was able to get constant reception. Horrible.

My last trip in August I was able to use 3G, but it topped out at 150kbps.

Have you seen speedtests from Verizon 3G lately? I swear they're throttling the heck out of them to make you want to upgrade to their 4G.

What made you pick the Vivid over the Skyrocket?
How is the battery life?

The battery is all over the place. It sucks to sum it up but I believe I have apps that are draining it because it swings like crazy. At least (unlike apple) you can swap packs out. It also charges pretty fast off a wall charger with 1+ AMP output, etc.

I chose it for the screen mainly. I like the thin ness of the Sammy better honestly. It's also stupid heavy. The metal plate on the back also teeters a bit when pushed and I had to bend it so it was tight. That kind of stuff is annoying.

The higher res and better overall look of the display is a plus. Not a fan of AMOLED yet. They seem to exaggerate the colors too much. I can't stand a TV that has its color cranked up and that's what it reminds me of. Plus the pixels are kind of noticeable especially going from an iphone 4 retinal display harhar!

I've hit over 52Mbps down and 13Mbps up on the same speed test.
I agree about the comment of "only one" using it for sure! These things are brand freeking new and as more people jump on the bandwagon and suck down that bandwidth things will either have to be throttled or it will just slow down to 3G or even edge speeds! 🙁

But for now it's wicked fast. I need to get it rooted so I can use the hotspot feature. I don't do stupid shit like p2p or stream movies so I don't think I will get a notice. I just really want to see how fast it is using it on a PC. 😉

Oh and ATT's 3G is pretty sweet in the area's I'm in most of the time.

I was in AT&T store in DOWNTOWN CHICAGO (not burbs) yesterday and I ran Speedtest on a Skyrocket and it was topping out at like 4 mbps.

Huh? Doesn't sound right to me.

The fastest I've tested one of the handful of 4G LTE hotspots we've had was about 8mbps down 2mbps up. This is in Seattle. The speed fluctuations are huge...

Yes the speed fluctuates all over the place.

You cannot test in the store because the phones are using wifi only. 😉

LTE in Baltimore is blazing fast. I've talked to others in the area with similar results. I was literally standing next to a tower and had 94% according to a signal app. Download was 52mbps, upload 18mbps. Ping was 45. 😵

My Skyrocket in DFW (with 3 bars where my house is) is consistently around 18Mbps down and 16Mbps up, at around 47ms ping.
