I have been considering a career in this field and was wondering where to get started in such a career. Most the buyer positions I have seen require 2-3 years experience, but I have not seen any entry level positions.

What specifically are you interested in doing in Supply Chain Management? I'm currently a consultant for a Supply Chain Management software company. I've also worked as a Logistics Analyst in finished goods distribution.

My background is Industrial Engineering, so maybe knowing your background and what you are specifically interested in would be helpful.

My background is a Business administration degree. I do not have any industry I must work in, but I am interested in the high tech industry (both software and hardware), and most manufacturing industries I have an interest.

You might want to check into getting certified as a Six Sigma black or green belt. That would help you a bit with getting the attention from employers. Possibly read up on some Industrial Engineering topics such as logistics, manufacturing, transportation, forecasting, etc... and mention them as areas of interest on your resume. Most of the people i've met in the industry have engineering or MBA backgrounds, so those will be the primary people you will be competing against for entry level positions.

Also remember that if you get on the consulting side that it will usually require quite a bit more traveling than if you were a project manager or analyst within a company.
