Anyone here work for circuit city?

How is it? Decent job? Im asking cause Im a college kid right now currently working at publix as a bagger, and it totally sucks! I hate it! Two perks however, my g/f works there... and they give good flexible schedules. What Im wondering is whether or not circuit city is flexible like that, and what they pay and basically anything about their jobs. I got an interview Tuesday and I kinda wanna know what Im gonna be going into. See if I want to quit Publix to work there or not.

I heard it's very easy and fast to get a job, someone here applied and got a call next morning, someone else got a call within a few hours of applying online, just do it

edit: will be tons better than bagging shite even though it's still retail

You will do a lot more work than bagging... and not make much more money, now that they're not commission-based anymore. That's the only reason I stuck with it - holidays and back to school cash flow. Otherwise, it was an awful job. Get ready to hear about how awful your numbers are all the time, whether they are or not. You will leave every day with even less respect for the human race after dealing with customers all day. If you want to give it a shot, stick with it till your discount kicks in, buy everything you could ever want, and bail.

I worked there for a year or two a few years back as a warehouse person. It was alright, nothing great.

my suggestion is to look into something that has to do with your future career.

totally depends on what you want to do. i was a CSA (customer service, did all your returns/PMs) so my work emphasis varied greatly from what the people out in the store did.

it's not that bad of a part time job, the one i worked at were a ton of college students so they tried to work around all our schedules as much as possible. depends on the manager on how many hours they can and are willing to give you.

i enjoyed working there and i'd like to do it again as a weekend job perhaps. the discount was nice (cost) but i wasn't a big fan of trying to sell the extended warranties.

it is very much your basic retail job. as a bagger you don't have as much interaction with the customers as they've already made their purchases and you can't really go "would you like to add this item on sale this week?" at electronic retail you need to suggest either items to fill the basket and also those lovely extended warranties.

Circuit City does not manage on the number anymore. The managers are no longer to tell you that your numbers aren't good enough. Personally I've never had a manager complain about my numbers, probably because I'm at 130% C.A. penetration in cell phones, whereas the average store is at 20%.

The job isn't bad at all. Its pretty easy, at least at my store, but it all depends on if you have a good manager or not. i've worked at 3 stores, and I can tell you, the managing crew makes ALL the difference.

Well I did get a call back within a day, and I had applied for Product Specialist. Not that I know anything special about any products, but what the hey, I'll learn.

What do they pay starting out? How good of a discount is it? And do ya think they'd be willing to gimme a really good schedule like I have at Publix? I'm not positive I want to quit my current job. Although it sucks, everyone there loves me, including my manager. Most of the time I can basically decide what I want to do, but thats because I'm a good solid hard worker. They don't have any problems with me, but I still hate bagging. Might get promoted to cashier soon, but still not alot better.

Any other advice/opinions?

I was a "Product Specialist" I suppose... Computers, Cell Phones, and "Imaging" (cameras). Management team does make all of the difference - My whole region wasn't so hot from what I gather. I could sell 5,000 in merchandise and get full CSP on everything, and my numbers still wouldn't be good enough. Thank God that management style has subsided. I once had my store manager stand next to me to "encourage" me to sell CSP on a Palm I was selling one of my loyal customers. I tried pulling her aside and explaining that this guy just will not buy the warranty, period, I've tried on the last 15 things I've sold him.... but that wasn't good enough. The guy got so mad after the 5 minute lecture she gave him about how stupid he was for not buying this warranty, that he got pissed off and stormed out of the store and never saw him again. I can't say as I blame him. One good thing did come out of my CC experience, though: Lots of holiday shopping done on the cheap, and it encouraged me to go get a real job.

My friend that worked there in home theater was making 1000$ a paycheck on a 20 hour work schedule, when they did commission.

However, i guess they stopped since Bestbuy stopped, and people started shopping there instead so they wouldn't get lied to.

I did it while I was at college. Things do seem to have changed since my time there ended (about two years ago). I'd give it a shot, but don't burn your bridges at Publix either.

Meh? wtf, my manager checks our #s once an hour. He doesn't go around bitching about it, but mentions it all the time. How can your other stores be at 20% in cell phones?

Agree with Deeko, management makes all the difference. Starting is $9.75 I think, job is extremely easy.

How much is it?

Yes curious...

and whats the final verdict? Should I seriously consider it for awhile while Im in college?

Used to be decent until they raised it. Its "cost" plus "shipping & handling" expenses which is just bullsh!t. The best are the accomodations from the manufactures.

I work for Compusa and some of our positions are commission based. Im in Hardware Sales/Custom BTO's (one of the few commission positions) and its decent work. Im still a full-time student, and work full-time, but take home about $2000 after taxes every two weeks. Although our store in hawaii has the top sales in the country just because we have the monopoly here, so thats the reason we make what we do. The best thing about the job is the discounts, so I can't complain.

Ahh 9.75 is pretty good money. Compared to my measly 6 Im making right now. Do they usually give pretty flexible schedules? And if the jobs easy I can handle someone b!tching at me every once in awhile about lousy numbers.

when I was there a few years back it was "cost". cost was not what the store buys them at (in bulk quanity), but at the price they could buy 1 at. regardless it was good.
