Anyone here with a Tesla Model S?

The problem is with an electric motor you get 100% torque instantly... so rather than a slow ramp up in power its BAM!!!! So you're putting more stress on the tires with the "quick" starts that happen more often.

Yea, I can see that, but with a lot of your driving being highway from the sounds of it I bet you'd get more life out of a set than 10k.

It's obvious you want the Tesla. Go for the dream man if you can afford it. My wife is not a car person in any way shape or form and she wants a Model S.

Interesting turn tonight, the wife actually liked it. I was also offered another job in the "move home" area... only this one would be 7 miles door to door. Same pay (within 2%) but not quite as good of a title.

... this would kill making the Tesla being "justifiable" ... and 15 miles round trip really makes a CTS-V coupe something I've been wanting for a while a legit option.

... I have til the 16th with both positions to let them know. Crunch time.

7 miles vs 100 miles x 5 times a week. No freaking brainer there given the relatively minor pay difference. Factor in road construction, bad weather, a bad wreck, ect and that is an absolute nightmare commute. You are turning a normal 8-9 hour job into an 11 hour or more job...every day. Under ideal conditions. That wears on you in a hurry. Put in construction delays or other things that push that to 12 or more hours and it's brutal.

Take the shorter commute!

Use to commute 90 minutes each way in Atlanta. Now a 10 minutes walk in DC. Never again. Kudos that you have such great options.

I should have been more specifc... the nature of the work of the two is a bit different. One I know I love doing (longer drive), one I know I am very good at but much less enjoyable.

... but like you said, two extra hours in a car a day adds up very quickly.

Do you deal with traffic at the one that's far away? For me, I find dealing with traffic to be a soul-killing experience. However, without traffic, my 75 mile 1 direction commutes were perfectly fine.

However, for equal pay (once you factor in fuel costs) I'd probably want to work closer and spend an extra hour in bed in the morning and a extra hour in evening at home with the wife.

You can still get the Tesla Model S, it's not like you suddenly can't afford it because you have a shorter commute.

Current job and 10 mile commute - yes traffic, and I agree it sucks.

Either "new" jobs traffic would be non existent. The biggest delays in both would be from turkeys, deer, and farm equipment in the road... I would be in the middle of nowhere.

That is true... just will be tougher to sell to the Mrs. given the reduced "savings" in gas / maintenance.

I'm touring both places in the next week here to see which might be a better fit.
