3 desktops wired, 2 laptops wireless.

Pretty cheap to do now and one of the greatest new things available. Speed doesnt seem to be an issue but I wouldnt do it for games.

No need to do it for desktops though unless you carry them around the house or to the pool.

I almost never use the desktop. My dell 8200 has internal wireless. The couch or hammock is more comfy than the desk chair 😀

Since your desktop PC's are in different rooms I would definitely recommend going wireless.

Before I took the plunge with wireless (we have 2 desktop PC's and 1 laptop on wireless) I did a lot of research.

First I bought the SMC7004AWBR WAP which worked great for 2 weeks then it crapped out on us and required resetting EVERY SINGLE FREAKIN' DAY!

Then I stumbled across Microsoft Wireless products (rebadged Linksys) and I am 110% satisfied with the ease of setup, performance is great even though we have all the security features turned ON and after a few months they're still working great.

If you buy the Microsoft Desktop Kit MN-610, I have an extra brand new sealed Microsoft USB adapter MN-510 if you're interested, you would have everything you need ... a WAP and 2 USB adapters.

Hummmm-

Got the same MS router and setup as Rossman and can vouch for it. Used daily this year and no glitches so far.

May have even out Ferengi ed the Grand Nagus on this one (doubt it though) Got the router and one adapter for $99 at New Years from the Target deal with a $20 mail in rebate!

Wireless is great, as long as you don't need to transfer large files.

600 MB in 30 minutes is not fun, I guess I could've pluged in the laptop.

I am wireless and I have been having a little trouble lately getting some of the computers to recieve signal from the router, other than that its great imo....🙂

I ran a cable from my room to my basement where my cable modem and router is. I still wanted my desktop to have fullspeed when accessing my fileserver. Currently I have 3 Wired Dekstops, 3 Wireless Laptops and my Wireless Zaurus...

Good news.

Starting this Sunday 6/1 OfficeMax will have the Microsoft WAP and USB adapter on sale for $60 and $50 respectively, after rebates.

So that's $110 total, add another $40 and use a $30 off $150 coupon and of course shipping is free 🙂

OfficeMax sale starts 6/1

I use wireless on the laptop, and I have a wireless USB NIC which is nice when my geek friends bring computers over and wanna get on the web or game. That way I don't have to run cable everywhere just to get them hooked up.

i am actually in a business meeting right now and we have wireless in the office and neffing here during the meeting zoning out.
wireless is the best, i have it here and at home as well.

Wireless for my laptop, wired to my 3 systems. Using a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Kit MN-620. Nice range of about 200 feet around the base station.

I've been running wireless since the beginning of August. No problems here. My main system, which is my laptop is both wireless & hardwired. My aunt's system started out as wireless, but I switched it over to wired about a month ago. I'm using the D-Link 802.11b enhanced wireless products. Their rated at 22mbps instead of 11mbps and they've been flawless. For how cheap it is now, I'd definitely go for it. Pretty much any brand will work perfectly fine, the chipsets in most wireless products are the same type.

yep, house is wireless. its cool no cables running through the middle of the living room ;-) hahaha.

nothing like sharing a 56k connection on a wireless network.

4 wireless desktops currently on wireless network, had a couple of notebooks & PDA's hooked up @ different times, keep selling them, I like a desktop much more than PDA's or notebooks.

I use Belkin cuz it's cheap, but really don't recommend their stuff🙁

I love not stringing wires, am thinking about putting the router/hub in the attic just to keep it out of sight...
