What do you mean? Do you think its not long enough to be effective or the other way around?

15 jumping jacks for 7 reps is 105 jumping jacks right? then 105 pushups, crunches, leg lifts and squats. Then do 14 of each 7 times. Thats another 98 of each and so on and so forth. How can you do this in 15-20 minutes?

I thnk I have this thing all wrong.

ok I see what you're saying. I thought you were talking about the running/cardio HIIT.

Ok I do have this wrong. You do 15 JJ's then 15 pushups and so on. Then do 14 of each then 13 of each then 12....until you do 1 of each then you are done. I can see this being done in 20 minutes.

You're interpretting it wrong. You do 15 jumping jacks, then 15 pushups, then 15 crunch form A, 15 crunch form B, 15 crunch form C, 15 leglifts, 15 squats

and then move on to do 14 jumping jacks, then 14 pushups, then 14 crunch form A, 14 crunch form B, 14 crunch form C, 14 leglifts, 14 squats

and then 13, 12, etc.

I wouldn't be able to do 120 pushups in a row and then jump in and suddenly do another 360 crunches in a row continuously!!

My trainer is a stuntman and makes his own movies, he showed me this method of training and it's similar to HIIT because each form changes the amount of energy you push. www.Justice-for-Hire.com.

I corrected myself in an above post. I go to the gym 3-4 days a week but its during lunch so I feel I get a descent workout but not what I really need. I think I will give this a try as well. Cant hurt to do 2 workouts a day.

This routine in itself is a pretty hard workout in my opinion. If not, just increase the sets.

Whoa this stuff really works, here's what I managed to do before nearly falling out

I did the following sets of exercises in reps of 10 down to 8 reps

jumping jacks
pushups
crunches
bicyle crunches
left lifts with a 3 second count

By the time I finished my reps of 8 I was beat. But I did'nt want to quit so soon, so after a 5 minute breather I jumped on my stair machine and followed the 4 minute HIIT routine. So now I'm done for the day and I feel like I had a real workout even though all I did was about 10-15 minutes of exercising.

Tomorrow I follow a more routine weight lifting schedule and I'll try to do some more HIIT on the stair machine for my cardio.

Anyone ever tried doing the HIIT cardio 4-5 times in a week? What kind of weight loss did you notice?

Imagine trying to do the full routine counting 15 down to 1. Good to hear that this works for you. This routine is my favorite.

I used it and went from about 15% BF to around 6% BF in 4 months. I also watched and counted everything that I ate and worked out 6 days a week. It can be done. I plan on doing it again soon as I have gotten out of shape. Im just easing back into working out now. It is effective and it does work, and you will be dead when youre done :)

so i got inspired by this thread as I was not satisfied with my cardio workouts thus far.

saturday i did 4 minutes HIIT jogging 30 sec/sprint 30 sec and 5 minutes yesterday

this worked out to 5.5 on the treadmill for jogging and 9.5 for the sprint

there is about a 5 second grace period when speeding up the treadmill or slowing it down so i tried to take this into account as best as possible.

This exercise is no joke. I was completely winded after the end of the 5 minutes. And I could tell my heart rate remain elevated for a while afterward.

I plan on continuing with this method until i can do the full 15 minutes.

Ill let you know if i begin seeing any physical results.

thanks for this thread by the way

Ive been doing the elliptical since the beginning of the year and I just started to add a HIIT type workout into it. My first effort went like this:
5 min warm up
30 sec sprint/30 sec jog for 11 minutes
4 minute cool down

total 20 minutes. I was sweating my behind off and felt great.

Second effort (after a weekend off)
5 minute warm up
30sec sprint/30 sec jog for 8 minutes
7 minute cool down
total 20 minutes.

Just couldnt do it more than 8 minutes. Dont know if I just had more ennergy the first time or less the second time. I will be going again today to find out which is the nromal one for me. Ill update with my progress. I figure if I can do it for the res of the month i can get a good read on how effective it is. I am also lifting weights as well so that will remain constant.

new2Amd what was your speed on that machine? i am going to the doctors tomorrow and if hte xrays are good, im going to be able to put weight on my ankle tomorrow. i'm going to start out on the eliptical machine though because its very soft on your joints and ankles, and not start running right away.

I tired it once so far. I got from 15 to 11. My head was spinning. I think I was trying to do it too fast. I will definetely use this routine when I cant get to the gym.

jogging pace was around 45-50 rpm and sprinting was around 70rpms. the resistance the first time was set to 3 and the second time was 4. Which could be another reason why I couldnt go as far.

j0hnny showed me his workout a while back, i've managed to get from 15->1 in about 30 minutes. which is great, because the first time we did it i had trouble just getting from 15-10.

worse part is, my pants are getting loose, but im not losing weight nor body fat which kind of pisses me of...oh well...usually I alternate HIIT on a bike and the 15s on consecutive days. but i just came down with the flu and haven't had a chance.

I bet you are losing BF. But im no expert. You are most likely gaining muscle and losing fat which maintains the same or nearly the same weight

cool, looks like people are getting into this

I've done the 4 minutes of HIIT at least 4 days out of the last 5. I have'nt weighed myself but I do feel like I'm making improvements. At the end of the month, I plan on weighing in and hopefully I will send a difference in weight

Oh arkitech, I started doing HIIT January 04. I lost about 30 pounds and 8%BF. At one point i hit about 13%BF I think had I changed my diet I probably would have lost more, but i didn't. The only thing I cut out was all sodas and juices.

It's not that HIIT gets you into the fat burning zone faster. It's that HIIT actually keeps you in the fat burning zone long after your HIIT session is done. In other words it is supposed to keep your heart rate & metabolism higher and make your body a better fat burning machine long after you are done exercising.

I am just starting it, did 4 minutes yesterday will follow that chart up to 15 minutes if I can. I'll let you know how it goes. Also, I think next time after I run I will check my heart rate every minute or two to see if I'm at "resting rate" or "fat burning rate".
