I read somewhere that side effects like weight gain and acne can be attributed to the different doses of specific pill components. Like switching to a pill that has lower estrogen may take care of the weight gain.

Most people I know that go to the doctor with problems with their PERIOD are prescribed birth control pills, it regulates your period for sure. Lots of girls in high school had that convenient excuse for convincing their mom to get them on the pill.

Most people I know that go to the doctor with problems with their PERIOD are prescribed birth control pills, it regulates your period for sure. Lots of girls in high school had that convenient excuse for convincing their mom to get them on the pill.

thats why i went on it...it was also covient for other reasons as well.

for me, i lost weight, and it helped with my PMS breakouts. I cant say enough good about the patch! it also helps aleviate (sp?) cramps

So you're on the patch? I need to go to the doctor soon and I'm thinking about asking for the patch. It sounds so much easier. You can put it on something like the shoulder, hip, or groin area right? None of those places sound really great, does it irritate or anything?

You should consult the site that I linked. What do you mean by bad period? Lots of bleeding or severe cramping?

According to the site, severe cramps may be alleviated by taking Yasmin, Desogen, OrthoCept, Mircette, and others.

Though, I'm sure her doctor would know for sure what to try.

i went on it for that reason also, plus the 'convenience'...but i gained weight and retained water like it was nobody's business. after a while it stopped working effectively--read: miscarriages. perhaps i needed a different dosage. :frown:

yes, I have. I was on Ortho-Tricyclen, stopped it a few months ago, and dropped a few pants sizes already.

and I am not so worried about pregnancy, there are other things that I would use to prevent that also, this is more of a backup in that case. I want it more for my skin and just to be regular again.

I'm taking Ortho Novum...and it's been pretty ok except for the constant nauseous feeling. It's not that well known..but I've talked to girls who have taken it and it pretty much works just like any other pill.

As for the patch...I haven't really heard any negative feedback about it. The only thing I can remember off the top of my head is sometimes it leaves that sticky residue thing when you take it off, oh..and sometimes rashes too. Hm...other than that...all good things (i think).

I was looking into getting the patch...but I figured the more traditional pills would be better for me. If this nausea keeps up tho...I'm gonna have to do some method changing. Bleh.

Yeah, my fiancee hates her prescription of Ortho-Tricyclen. She's getting her precription changed on her next visit to "the unfriendly doctor" (her quote ). It's one of those cases where I just nod my head and smile, "Sure thing, babe" b/c honestly I don't see her weight gain.


As for the Depo shot and all that monkey business....they're the devil! My fiancee's gyno had her on the pill for 3 months straight then one week off. Mother of God, I needed a fvcking bomb shelter starting that second month. I was doing all kinds of crazy stuff wrong, like breathing too loud from the next room. That's the one time I stepped in and demanded input on her pill prescription.
