What is the functionality of paint.net? Would it approach Paint Shop-level functionality or is it nowhere close?

Someone asked me, and I do not know the answers as I have not used it much

I'd never heard of it. So I went and downloaded it.

It's got the basic blur, sharpen, emboss, red-eye removal, etc.

It doesn't seem overwhelmingly full of features, It's no PhotoShop, that's for sure. Just initially glancing over it, it's pretty powerful for being free.

If all he's doing is basic image editting, it doesn't seem like a bad program. The interface is a bit friendlier than the GIMP. Not as many features though.

My understanding is that it is a student project at UW mentored by one or two staff from Microsoft, with one MS guy assigned full time to it. I agree with you that it's a good idea, and certainly the GIMP has the worst UI of any graphic editing program in the history of desktop imaging (can we say, reinvent the wheel anyone?, i.e, right clicking for drop-down menus??)

Have you seen that mod for GIMP that makes the UI very similar to Photoshop's?
