Anyone here ever hire a maid or cleaning lady? Or know someone who does? I'm thinking of getting one, I wanna know if anyone ever used one and what did they think. Did they actually do a good job cleaning?

Oh, and :camera: 's if anyone has a good looking maid :)

depends on how much you pay. If you go with a cleaning service don't leave any valuables out in the open. You can even have them clean just sections of the house.

I have maids. They do a good job, but recently they just went to sending one maid out. I've always been very nice to her and talked to her about her kids, and I think she is a great person. She folds my clothes, washes my dishes, cleans everything to a shine, and does a lot of stuff the service doesn't require her to do(don't think dirty, I just mean stuff like folding and washing clothes). I think it is worth it. I'm not an organized person and I suck at cleaning.

Most of the time you have to call them out for an estimate, and it depends on the size of your house/apartment/condo and how often you have them come out. Since I live alone and never use my upstairs(except for guests), they no longer clean that. They come out once every two weeks and I am currently paying 80. You can find cheaper ones out there. I'm using a service, but a lot of people do it as a second job and will be cheaper. I think it is 100% worth it. Think of how much $$$ in cleaning supplies you use.

My grandmother did that until recently. Tip around Christmas and don't leave anything disgusting.

$80 a visit? hmm, how much time do they usually spend cleaning? i'd think the cost would be directly related to how much time it takes them? mainly i'd just want one to clean the bathroom and kitchen, and maybe tidy up the living room.

heh, i'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but i'd like to have more free time (and i hate cleaning the bathroom) so i was just wondering if this would be worth it :)

I was working at a smaller 2-level house a few weeks back. The owners had a cleaning lady over that they've used for about the last 15 years or so. The house looked very clean and organized to me before the cleaning lady got there, but she still spent nearly 4 hours there - going over and cleaning everything.
