Anyone here use a fractional T1 for home use? Thinking of shelling out the bucks for a connection.

For some reason I can't get good speeds on my DSL while all the other surrounding burbs get fairly good bandwidth. I'm currently paying around 110 per month for 144/144 speeds on my DSL through Speakeasy. For just a couple of hundred bucks more I could get a fractional T1 to the house. And while I would'nt want to pay that much for internet service for a year's period its tempting to maybe go for it for about a 3 month span. I'm just curious if anyone here has run a T1 to their home and what they paid for it.

110 for 144/144? dude, you are paying 10 times more than what you should... 144/144 broadband is like the worst broadband you can get, and you pay that much for it?! crazy...
i once got quotes from a couple of t1 companies... usually goes around $200-$300/mo depending on where you live....

I get 1500/256 for $49 a month on DSL. (Well $0 if you count the fact that I don't pay for it )

I'm now getting 3500/256 from Comcast for $40 per month. You're definately getting raped with that 144/144 for $110.

yeh it is crazy but thats all I could get for my area, I tried calling all over and Speakeasy was the only one who even provided service to my suburb. I have'nt checked dslreports.com in couple of weeks so maybe something new has come up but for the time being this is the only way for me to get any kind of decent internet service.


Where did you get your T1 quotes from? If I could get a line for 200 I'd be all over it.

I was on the IDSL for 144/144 before. It was 140 something here. My aunt's comapny paid for it. it is dedicated ISDN line so it is expensive.

Now her company changed to provide ADSL and only paid 49 a month for 1500/384.

there was only one company who offering service based on that distance in my area

unfortunatly about 100 to 120 is normal for 144k idsl. I am happy with my $50 a month comcast cable though ... Just wish the pro would be available here .. (though I'd really like OOL to come out here ... )

How come you people have all these providers like Comcast and Speakeasy? All we have in Texas is SWBell, or another DSL provider that rents their lines. For cable there's just Time Warner.

Is it because we are a Republican state?

Im guessing you have IDSL not DSL, hence the price. Also with frame relay and stuff, I think they have a contract dont they? you might want to look into that first. And yeah, I would check again to see if you can get dsl first before trying the frame relay, fraction t-1 stuff.

Comcast is a cable company just like Time Warner. Each city is usually only serviced by one cable franchise. Parts of Texas may have comcast.

Speakeasy is another DSL provider that rents SBC lines

They also rent Verizon, qwest, and pacbell lines.

I'd actually check into setting up a wireless ISP for people in your area. If there is enough interest you could lower your cost/month and provide the faster bandwith to others in the area. Dslreports has stuff on it IIRC.

As would I. That's $1320/year just for internet. Unless that $1300 connection is making you $, that's crazy.
