Anyone here use a Asus p3v4x? need some help

Since we're on the subject, does it also support booting from the CD (Win2k)? I've tried the boot order, disabling everything else, etc. in the bios. Can't get it to work.

Yeah, everything gets recognized. I did a little searching and read a few posts...

so i'll but the cd rom first in the boot order, reboot, nada, end up still in dos asking for a boot disk.

tried cd first, and everything else disabled in the boot menu, (and also disabled in the first menu of the bios, so it doesn't show up at all, and vice versa) nada, still goes through the normal boot sequence and asks fot a boot disk.

Is there some other menu i'm missing, or i'm not getting the boot up sequence right?

Yeah, it's in the master cd rom on it's channel.

Is the drive actually scanning the disc while trying to boot before prompting you for a boot disk?

If so, the disc is probably not bootable.
If not, there's probably a problem with your settings, the drive, or the configuration.

Yeah, after the bios detects everything and goes on to the next screen, the cd starts to spin for about 5sec, and then it goes with the system failure, insert boot disk.

It's in my Hitachi (sp?), dvd drive. It's a little over 4-5 years old, maybe that's the prob?
Does it really matter if the drive is master on the channel? I could so try my plextor cdrw drive.

Then you probably didn't create it as a bootable cd. You need to specifically set in the burning software that you want it to be a bootable cd...simply copying over command.com and the other required files isn't enough.

Are you sure you have a bootable copy of win2k? My copy of win2k server is not bootable, and I recall a thread a while back of people with copies of win2k pro that also weren't.

most important..make sure you have bootable win2k cd...it it aint bootin you dont have one
plus make sure you have the cd in the right cd drive...the bios is really simple..should be able to change that no prob...
