Anyone here tried building their own speakers?

Buying tools will negate any money you save by building your own speakers. If you are only going to build one set of speakers, and you have no interest in other wood working projects, then just buy some good speakers.
I have a nice set of Paradigms (though I do wonder if they are a bit bright for my tastes, perhaps I should have bought a more "English" sounding set like B&W) but need another pair, matching is of no concern here. I'm on a limited budget now but have some time to kill. But, yes woodworking tools would be a waste and I'd likely just buy a kit and assemble it myself. Not as much dignity when compared to going full DIY but a bit more hands on than purchasing a set.

If your Paradigms are a little bright, open them up and see what kind of caps are in them. You may improve the sound by going to a differnt type/brand of cap. As I noted before, oil caps will mellow the sound, as can a differnt brand of electrolytic, or eve a Solen Fast Cap. For just a few $$$ you can vastly improve the sound of nice speakers like the ones you already have.🙂
