Well I was thinking about getting an IBM thinkpad t43p so that I could run catia CAD software on it, as it is one of the few well built and light laptops that support special open GL cards. After some looking for them, man, they are expensive!:( I started reading around and found out that with the IBM employee purchase program, (EPP) you can save up almost 35%.

With EPP you are entittled to 25 discounted purchases a year with yourself, friends, and family. Does anyone do me a big favor and be my friend? :D All you need to purchase through the program is a employee serial number and last name. I guess probably no one will really want to help, but hey, I've met some really nice guys on this forum.

*mods* if you think this post is inappropriate, just delete it and I'm sorry for any possible inconvinience.

No, my friends and I are still going through school and my family besides my parents are in China :( ;) My dad works for Toyota and he sometimes has to stay really late at work doing that stuff, so I was gonna see if I could save up some money and buy a laptop we could share that would really take some stress off my dad.

Don't tell me you can read minds too. :p But in truth, thats what I was thinking, as stated in my OP something like "does anyone want to be my friend." Then when you said it would be fraud, I backed off.

Since when it is fraud if IBM allows for it? If their employee purchase plan lets you get computers for friends and family, and limits it by the number of purchases, I don't see why it'd be fraud to have a friend that worked at IBM buy one for you.

IBM encourages people to give them out. there's prizes for the folks that bring in the most $$ each year.

that said, there also USED to be a generic EPP login. anyone could log in and buy stuff - it was great - if you knew about it. it stopped working about the time of the lenovo aquisition, however. Few employees even knew about it, as far as I could tell.

Nope. just something I've heard from a couple people who work/worked for them. that was pre-lenovo though, so it might have changed when that happened.

i don't see how it is fraud especially id the IBM employee that decides to help him out isn't trying to profit from it (get 35% off then sell to OP for only 20% off and so forth.
I don't think IBM will be asking "HOW good of friends are you? how long have you known him? oh less than 13 years nopes sorry IBM's definition of "friends" is knowing the person 13+ years and must have lived within 5 miles of each other at one point AND have had attended the same school"
a friend is a friend long as there isn't a profit to be made.

Correct me if I'm wrong BillyBatson, but if the OP "gains" a new "friend," and IBM offers an EPP w/ incentives, isn't this just another way of "referral" links?
