Anyone here taken Intermediate Accounting?

So I finished up my MBA last May. I decided to jump back in and take a few accounting classes to decide whether or not I wanna take the CPA. I've already done managerial and cost accounting. I'm going to take Intermediate 1 and maybe 2 this summer (enrolled already for both).

I know I'll get that stuff from my classes, but I'm going to start reading/studying before the classes start to get a jump on things. The first exam is going to be pretty bad and I know this is a weeder class for accounting so I'm trying to brace myself.

Does anyone have any study guides, syllabi, advice they would care to share?

Brace yourself. My gf took that class. She hated it. She always complained about it. She ended up with a B- and she just said it was good enough.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll likely mow the lawn tonight....then start reading. My wife is in Physician Assistant school right now (Master's of Medicine). Because of this, I can't complain about the class to her....I'm on my own. :frown:

Just tough it out For one, the book my gf used was bigger than any text book I have ever seen and the writing was small. I still remember it like it was yesterday. After 7 hours of completing Electromagnetics HW, I went to sleep. I wake up the next morning and my gf and still working on her Intermediate Accounting HW.

I'm aware...basically what I'm up against though.

I've worked in IT over 10 years and have a solid job at a University. Of course I got all my degrees in business and have little "management" experience in an office environment. When I apply for jobs, the IT jobs want a CS degree (programmer fill-in) or the business folks want the straight-up experience. I can do both, but don't feel right putting it on the resume since I only dabble.

I'm giving accounting a try to get the certification (or not)....because it's free for me (minus books) and because it will transfer easier if I move back to my hometown. They don't have much IT up there that's not Windows Administration. (which I would NEVER do)

I don't know if I'll ever sit for the CPA, but if I take classes over the summer and do 12 more hours between the fall and spring, I'll be eligable to sit for the CPA at least.

well intermediate accounting isn't shit. you seem like a pretty smart guy so I imagine you'd do fine.

the hours are grueling....
the liability you have when you make a mistake and the punishment that occurs....it's scary

I was thinking that if I had a CPA, MBA, and knew IT I would make a pretty good CIO or CFO eventaully. I would just need to put in a few years of gruntwork on the accounting side to work my way up to it. I already have the IT background. I'm turning 28 this summer....I've got time to work toward it.
