My doctor said I'm really anxious and should try a small dose of it to see if it should help. I was in the doctors office for something entirely different when he suggested it. He says the choice is entirely up to me.

Does anyone here take it or know someone who does? Can it be used as a temporary thing? Anyone have any side effects?
 
No. Personally, I don't buy into the current fad of taking prescribed drugs for every imagined disorder that people think they might have.

I don't either, but I can't think of another way to make me relax. He can't either. I don't really want to take medicine, I frankly hate it.
 
If you're really anxious: meditate, drink green tea, practice breathing exercises. Learn to do something to relax, and don't even consider taking drugs unless you cannot function in society without them. This is why I hate psychiatrists and the referal-happy psychologists.
 

An ex-girlfriend of mine took it for a while, it's often used as an antidepressent and to treat either bipolar or borderline personality disorder, and maybe hypertension disorders too I think...

It can have some pretty serious side effects, and it's a pretty strong medication. It definitally messed up that girl, but I don't remember the exact effects as she switched medications too many times for me to keep track of.

I wouldn't take it unless you've been diagnosed with some pretty serious stuff and have tried lots of other things first...

edit: my roomate is a crazy biatch who refuses to take meds for her ocd and bipolar, adn she just smokes a bunch of pot... seems to make her better, until she runs out.

me, I prefer the beer route.
 
I'm on it and the ONLY side effect for me is very vivid dreams and it takes a little longer to "get it done" with the old lady if you know what i mean. But the second can hardly be considred adverse. It doesnt affect the way i think, it just calms me down

I used to take it and had the same side effect, but much more severe. I always thought faking a male orgasm was just a Sienfeld joke, but I had to do it several times while on Lexapro. Other than that, I never really noticed any difference on it.

Oh yeah. In fact, sometimes I would go off of it for a couple of days so I could have "normal relations" for a weekend now and then. I could go 6 or 7 times a night after coming off of it sometimes. Also, when I went off of it, I got some weird mild electric-shock type sensations in my arm for a couple of days. Nothing terrible, just odd.

When i forget to take mine it lesses substantially, so i would venture to say that a few days off it would be enough to make it normal
 
I take it, and it is mainly to take the edge off of things. Essentially, it may be easier to visualize this. You have \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ under normal conditions, but when taking Lexapro or a similar drug, your modds end up being more like ~~~~~~~~~~~~. (I know the graphics here aren't great, but you get the idea. It is usually used to keep someone from having big mood swings.

Side effects: Most of these drugs have sexual side effects, but they go away with time. In the short term, you may find that your sex drive will diminish, but over time this returns. delayed ejaculations may also be a result until your system normalizes again. That may take a couple of months. My guess would be that your doctor will prescribe you a low dose of 10mg or whatever the unit is. (ie. it may be micrograms or some other level, so spare the flames if I made an error) I was on 10 for awhile and was fine, but then the doctor put me on 20. (I honestly am not sure why he increased it, but I went with it) I was on 20 for awhile, then decided to go back to 10. My wife claimed she could tell the difference, but I think it was just because my body had not regulated the levels yet and things were out of balance during the transition. In any case, I went back to 20 and that's where I've been since.

The big thing with meds like this arfe that you should NOT SIMPLY STOP TAKING THE MEDICINE. Suddenly stopping medicines like these have been proven to lead to increased risk of suicide. You should gradually decrease use under a doctor's care so that you do not "crash" from the sudden change in the brain chemicals. In other words, you would go from ~~~~~ to ~\_________________/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
 
I've taken a lot of stuff and there is no way that I'd take an anti-depressant.

Unless one is in the small minority with a true chemical imbalance, anti-depressat's are the worst drugs on can take,m coke, meth, heroin included.

LOL....

I took it for anxiety and it had no side effects for me. I might have put on a couple pounds with it but that is it, and I cannot solely attribute it to that.

Someone who thinks Lexapro is a "serious" SSRI, has no idea what they are talking about.
