I used it as one of the many drugs in my arsenal for narcolepsy. It was 10mg of the extended release stuff, and it definitely remains one of the more potent drugs I have ever used. Like all stimulants, I would quickly become resistant to the effects and would have to rotate off for a week or continue to up the dosage. If used at a high enough dose, it induced a mild mania, where I felt like I could accomplish anything; however, I have noticed (and it is a known phenomenon) that despite the fact that everything I did while on adderall (or any very strong stimulant for that matter) seemed to be perfect, it actually caused me to make far more mistakes than I normally would, and I would not realize it at the time. In a way, it gives the user tunnel-like focus, where minute details become more important than the big picture. This is why people report that adderall and other amphetamines make them want to clean the floor with a toothbrush, or something to that effect.

Adderall, and to a lesser extent, Ritalin, were two drugs that I did not and still do not particularly like to use for more than 1-2 days continuously, as the crash was far more severe and noticeable than with milder alternatives. Back in my college days, it was a necessary evil.

In college. there was a fair amount of recreational use of prescription stimulants, and I know of at least a handful of people who took the drug to help concentrate on tests. I am also sure that many who did not, either did not have easy access or were unwilling to ask around- many a straight-edge student came to me for various "study aids" given that I was always well stocked due to my condition. The going rate for a cap of Adderall was between $5-10 as of 2004, as far as I can remember. Insurance paid for my stock, which I believe was about $3/10mg capsule.

And yes, the stuff killed my appetite like none other. Not only did I not feel hungry, the thought and act of eating was nauseating. Never had much trouble falling asleep no matter what I was on, although that probably does not apply to the average non-narcoleptic user.

I have a friend that swears by it for studying/test days/long papers. It seems like he is a totally different person when he takes it. I guess that is to be expected though.

I never understood people abusing Adderall.. I was prescribed it when I was younger and I don't know why people would want to abuse it.

Its speed. It feels similar to Coke.

more like meth...
The active ingredient is "amphetamine salts"

Maybe.. I've never done meth though.

It feels like coke to me in a lot of ways (especially when railing it). But, then again, theres no way I could study on Coke.

i agree haveing done both, the difference is small, now could have been that i never did amazing coke, but the 2 wernt very diff, and i know others that say the same thing

in college we would pay like 8$ for 1 30mg or 10$ for 2, it seemd to be everywhere, most took it to study all night long or stay up and wright papers, and yes it did work for that,

prob was if you were doing something else when it "kicked in" say like playing Snood, you would be playing Snood for hours

many took it and then went out and started drinking, as because you were so wide awake you coudl drink more/longer

If you don't want to write in this thread please PM me.

TIA

People I knew used to take it. They were hardcore tweakers that would take just about any upper when they couldn't get their fix from glass (speed).

The general consensus was it was good strong stuff but way too expensive to buy when you had a good glass hookup. IIRC most of they'd steal it from someone who had a legal script.

I know a pretty decently large crowd who uses it. Good at keeping you up but not speeding. They are college kids and a lot use it recreationally to party longer as well as to be able to stay up with work and studying. It is fairly inexpensive and even easier to convince a doc to prescribe. I met a girl in a Kaplan MCAT prep class who got herself a prescription from a doctor solely to do study longer and do better on the MCAT... she is going to be a doctor some day... imagine that.

I've met a few people that took it... not my thing, but they would take it to study, smoke cigs to relieve themselves. On the morning of the final, they would take one of the pills, or maybe the night before, drink a rockstar, and smoke cigs as they walked to the final. Most, if not all, do very well on the tests, then they crash like none other and sleep for a long while.

Like I said, not my thing and not something I want to ever do. If I do well, it's because I wanted to, not because a pill made me. (And no, I'm not implying anything AT ALL about others, I'm simply talking about myself and my personal choice)

Pretty interesting topic because my Cousin flew F15's and took ephedra (as did other pilots at that time for concentration and staying awake on long flights) before the military and gov't banned it. Ephedra though would really dehydrate you if you weren't careful and if used wrong could really harm you but I'm assuming that the effects were somewhat similar to these prescription drugs.

first off, sorry for reviving this thread. However...

It's kind of a funny drug because it can be so versatile.

I could pop some Adderall before going out for the night, then have the best time of my life--be moving all around, high intensity, actively conversing, entertaining... the whole package.

Or, I could just take some and study for 3 hours strait, then write a paper--I would be completely in the zone, 100% concentration, and loving every second of it.

That's what makes it so popular, you get a euphoric feeling doing anything really.

Do you know if these effects are felt by both people with and without ADD/ADHD? I have been worse in studies and in the ability to concentrate, and have been reading up more on ADD and I have come to the conclusion I might have a mild case of ADD/ADHD. When I go to the doc today for my knee, I'm going to ask about ADD. Not sure if I need to see a specialist or not, but merely asking about it and if I can be diagnosed as having it, cannot hurt.

I am wondering if the drug can make you act that way regardless if you have the disorder. Reason being, I would LOVE to have the feeling of WANTING to go do homework, clean the room, etc etc. The homework I have isn't even all that bad, mostly reading (cannot focus unless the reading it actually entertaining/interesting), and Russian, well interest is somewhat high as I love the thought of being able to speak a language like Russian, but ability to focus on the reading/homework is low.
Even if I don't have ADD, if it can help me get homework done, I could have the grades I have always wanted (I manage to get by on a B average without a lot of effort, but I need higher grades to have a better chance at getting the branch in the Army that I want), I would then love to have a legal prescription. It's not something I'd abuse, I don't really enjoy the thought speed and have had access to it whenever I wanted but don't touch uppers, unless its abusing caffeine.

BTW, does it operate at all in the same way as caffeine (not necessarily the bad effects of caffeine, just the uppity part)? Because caffeine will sometimes help me concentrate, but thats rare. It usually just exaggerates the randomness that is flying around in my brain.

adderal is around 3-5 dollars here at ASU. If i ask the right friend, I can get it for free.

Most people use it for studying, but some use it to go out.

Most all people use it for the same reason tho, to focus. Whether it is to focus on partying all night or to focus on the test you have the next morning, this is the reason people take it.

Most people dont start taking it first to go out however. I believe most poeple use it at first to help them study, then if it is abused it will permeate into other facets of their life.

Everytime I have used it (30 MG pills) I stay up wayyy late. Sometimes I took it at seven at night, and couldnt go to sleep until around 4 int he morning

Adderall prices @USC are pretty high. The shitty stuff (5-10mg) is a few bucks, 20mg a bit higher, and the holy grail of them all 30mg XR's are like 10-15 a pop. Obviously prices increase during midterms/finals.

shit is FANTASTIC. it is everything that marijuana is not.

never used it for "recreation", but to get shit done

It isn't supposed to be a mood modifier. I guess it might be if you do not have AD(H)D. I have ADHD and stopped taking medication years ago, but the amphetamine meds did absolutely nothing in terms of giving me highs nor did it act as a stimulant like caffeine. All it did was allow me to keep myself focused on what I wanted to, otherwise my mind is channel surfing non-stop. It's not going to make you want to study or anything like that, but it should allow you to keep focused on your task. For those without ADD, I really don't know what it will do to them, it's a pretty strong stimulant. The side effects that I experienced was insomnia and loss of appetite. The insomnia rises from the fact that it is a strong stimulant, but I've had insomnia for the years since I've took it so I don't know how much would be correlated to the drugs.

does not work properly for those without ADD? of course it doesn't work properly: to work properly, the patient needs to have ADD/ADHD so that the stimulant works the way its supposed to. ;)

well, update:
the doctor has me going to a counselor on campus tomorrow to see if it's just some underlying anxiety or if it really is ADD. ugh, damn hoops. i don't really care if I have ADD or not, I just want to take something that can make sure I stay focused.
in the meantime, they are also going to inquire about giving me some kind of neuro-psyche battery of tests (lasts 4 hours! :Q), but an appt. can't even be scheduled until the 26th, and due to the length of the testing, I probably won't be able to get in till the Winter Quarter (which starts in January). Due to that, and the fact that I am slightly worried about Finals, I was referred to the counselor so see if it's just anxiety, or something underlying that I need to 'talk about'. I'm worried about the finals because of a possible condition that may hamper good results.

in the meantime, I'm gonna see if I can just go to my family physician and be tested there over winter break. Probably a helluva lot cheaper than some psychologist, since my insurance is more of a NW Ohio only thing, and not around here.
