I do.. it's hard to get enough of an appetite to gain weight without running for me.

When I do cardio, it really increases my appetite. You could really do anything - swimming, running, biking, rowing, circuit training, etc - to get the same effect.

Your title's a bit misleading though. I thought you were trying to bulk through running only, which would be... interesting to say the least.

Yeah the key concept is cardio.

I don't see how your misinterpretation of my title makes it misleading though. I meant exactly what i said.

It makes it sound as if the act of running alone will cause you to gain weight, which it really won't. As mentioned, cardio is your best bet. A combination of swimming and running would yield great results.

Swimming, biking, and running would be the best. *wink wink*

I suppose if you did some running with a really high incline it wold be an ok leg workout. I have really started to notice though that running really increases my apatite too, the last few weeks ive been doing 2-3 miles on my gym visits

Run to gain weight? Never! I run to avoid rampaging tigers.
I lift heavy weights for low reps, and sit or sleep as much as possible to gain weight ...

That seems counterintuitive. You have to eat when you are -not- hungry to gain weight (and to lose weight to increase metabolism which is what you want anyway for either result). Your appetite alone will not help with his. If you only eat when you are hungry and just use running as a measure you will never gain the weight you want to.

That's not quite right. If you can get yourself hungry and eat quickly enough before the hormones equilibrate, you will eat more than normal and more than what your body needs. It's not counter-intuitive and it actually works quite well. Obviously, you can't be ravished every time you wanna eat, but if you can eat an extra large meal in the day because cardio has put you in a very hungry mode then it will be beneficial to those that have problems eating enough.

That just seems weird to me. Wouldn't the cardio negate the weight gain from the calorie depravation?

It depends. If I do HIIT, I can burn as little as 200-300 calories. With a big appetite afterwards, I can easily eat 500-600 calories more especially if I have a couple of glasses of milk.

If it works, then by all means use it, but it seems kind of counterproductive to me. I'd much rather do weight training as it will help ensure most of the weight I gain is muscle while running alone is more likely to result in muscle loss. Moreover, I usually get really hungry after weight training, while running tends to suppress my appetite for a while. To each their own though :)

Well, see, CrossFit clearly has the same (or greater) effects as running when it comes to appetite stimulation. If I just do an anaerobic lifting sesh, I don't really get much more hungry. If I get any type of aerobic exercise in, it really helps get my appetite up. Crossfit usually makes me ravenous afterwards.
