So, does anyone here run, manage, own etc a bar or tavern or whatever?

Just seeing if someone had any experiences (good or bad) with that stuff.

You're kidding right? Most of the people here aren't even old enough to get IN a bar much less own one. 😉

The biggest issues about running a bar are liability, and pay offs to get a liquor license.

I have a friend whose sister owns two bars and I've talked to her a few times about it. Hers are small neighborhood bars. One doesn't serve food, the other has a small grill and deep fryer.

It's only profitable if you can find and keep honest employees. It's a cash business and very easy to steal. If you can't get honest people to work for you, then you have to be there yourself. She feels it's an advantage to having neighborhood bars because you get the same crowd all the time - less trouble with the customers, less fights outside, etc.

The video poker games bring in good money.

I use to be a Bartender. One of the problems I remember were patrons falling off the bar stools drunk.

My girlfriend was an excellent bartender. Seeing guys constantly hit on her drove me nuts though.

The honestly thing, very good point. Lots of opportunity for dishonest people to steal money.

what can a owner/manager etc do to keep people honest etc... ? Any insights? I sorta have a job offer to run/manage and part own a bar, and am thinking over my options.

get a couple of cameras and aim it at the register and bar area and let the help know that they will be recorded

<----- managed a bar for ~year. Most fun job i've ever had in my life. Going to work was fun everyday...only job i've ever had where i was paid to drink (well, and to do other stuff😀). Employees stealing is always a concern, but if you treat them well and give them good discounts on food, liquor etc. you have a better chance of them respecting you and therefore won't feel the need to take anything from you.

Watch the garbage. Seriously, thats how a lot of employees sneak out food/alcohol. They put it in a seperate bag inside the regular trash, and after hours they go to the dumpster and pick up their loot

Unless they think it over and ask themselves how often the recordings will be viewed. All the cameras in the world dont help if you dont have someone trustworthy watching them... and that takes time, which costs money
