Anyone here replaced a G2 touchscreen?

Yesterday my G2's touchscreen inexplicably stopped working in a small horizontal band. I didn't drop it or anything so I took the back off and tried reseating the touchscreen connectors but no luck there. I was wondering if anyone has replaced the touchscreen/lcd on a G2 and if they are fused together or not. I've seen a couple websites claiming they aren't, meaning I could just buy a digitizer, but I'm not sure I believe that since fusing the touchscreen and LCD is so common nowadays.

I bought it secondhand so I wasn't sure if they'd be willing to fix it but I'll have to contact them and see.

Thanks for the link, I'll have to contact LG later on and if they can't help me out I'll just do it myself. I was hoping I could just replace the digitizer but watching that video it looks like it's glued to the LCD so I'll probably just have to replace both.

replacing the screen is a mess... you have to apply adhesive on a very small surface between the thin upper display sheet and the frontal housing; it's likely that in the process you'll either spill some glue in a wrong place or apply too much of it, in which case gaps appear between the rim of the housing and the display sheet. Gaps often appear inexplicably at side bezels. I've done it 3 times, twice of which times the result was unusable. The third time was less of a disaster but did leave visible traces on the paint at the top and bottom bezel.

you can try using stickers with adhesive on both sides, but you'll need very thin ones. Putting almost anything on the surface under the side bezels is near guaranteed to leave gaps, but putting nothing there is also likely to.

If you do it, order a front housing + display in one. THAT is a very easy thing to install. Although you have to be careful prying the battery away from the old housing or it will swell or even open. You should probably heat up the glue before prying at it, although that's obviously also a risky thing to do near a battery.

I just bought a G2 from a member here a month ago (maybe he'll chime in) and subsequently dropped it while out drinking in Boston. I replaced the screen and digitizer last Friday night even though the screen was fine - from what I gathered and have seen on YouTube, they are indeed bonded to one another.

The process took 2 hours since I was super careful and some parts were rather tricky. That said, with the proper tools (opening/pry tools, heat gun, 2mm double adhesive tape) it was pretty straightforward.

One part probably took 15 minutes just because the videos and online documentation weren't detailed enough.

The step where you glue together the frontal housing and the display sheet is where things are most likely to go wrong; if you can somehow make that easier with the right kind of sticker the job is quite manageable. I once ordered a new front housing with adhesive stickers pre-applied so putting the display sheet on it seemed totally foolproof, but even then a gap opened at the left hand side of the screen. It's a pretty treacherous job.

When the result is imperfect and you remove the display sheet from the frontal housing again, the black glue under the glass where the sheet meets the top and bottom bezel is likely to have visible traces on it which aren't easy to get rid of completely, so you'll want to get it right the first time.

I bought a galaxy mega that someone replaced the glass on and it was noticeable that they fixed it. There was a gap in the lower left corner and it looked like shit. Luckily I've got a really good repair guy locally that does a ton of screen replacements. He laughed when he saw it and fixed it for $20.
