I've only read the first book. From what i've heard, the first 6 or so were REALLY good, but started going downhill after that.
The first book was really good, except for the end, which was like Jordan tried to finish writing the last 50 pages in 20 minutes.

I read the first four or five but then gave up. I don't have patience for stories that go on too long.. plus a lot of the original characters died off or changed so much the story kinda died. Jordan is a great writer too.

I love the series. Every book. I like how it goes on and on. The story is so huge and grand, and rich in character.

Not to crap in your thread, but George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series is a much better read, IMNSHO...

It's called "A Game of Thrones", followed by "A Clash of Kings", then "A Storm of Swords", and then "A Feast of Crows" will hopefully be out sooner rather than later.

The next book is "supposed" to be out this year.

There are times when Jordan's style is maddening. One part of the story is going well, getting interesting, SLAM, off to deal with somebody else. *Mutter* Then you have episodes where main characters (take Mat for instance) are left almost entirely out of the book. Ugh. I like the books, but I sure wish I wouldn't have picked up #1 until the last one was out.

robert jordan has stolen at least 40 hours of my life... he'll probably take at least another 10-20 before the series concludes... if it ever does... that's time i'll never get back...

when it all boils down to it... he's a fairly mediocre writer, but an amazing world builder, and a master of stretching things out to epic proportions... not that i have any issues with that... i'm the sort that wishes they'd make films that lasted 10 hours+...

I like the Wheel of Time, too. I like big, epic storylines :)

I also recommend George R. R. Martin's series. I think it has 3 books out right now. The thing that I like about Martin's books is that he kills off main characters at times. Sometimes you'll hate the "evildoers" but then pity them, etc. Great series.

jordan's books got lame a long long time ago. the first 3 were interesting and then rand goes and sits in the desert for like 3000 pages. booooorrrrrrring. the characters aren't flat, but they don't change in the books, they change between the books. and really they haven't changed all that much. in fact, most of the characters are quite flat. winter's heart was a lot better but from the end of the previous book i'd expected the siege of tar valon to happen. not that i wasn't pleased with mat being half the book, he is by far the most interesting character because he is mortal, unlike rand and crew, who can't possibly be in believably danger at this point in time.

thats why martin's series is better. even if main characters aren't dying (and no, no perspective character has been killed yet... lots of big supporting ones have though) you feel like the main characters can be killed, because, guess what, they're mortal. they don't have supernatural abilities. though bran will become that way and its going to hurt the book. i sorta fear a feast of crows because of it. at least martin will wrap his series in 6 books.

I luv both G R R Martin and RJ. RJs books have more clearly defined characters. Meaning some one is either with the good side or the bad side, u may not know if they (the char) is good or bad but every char is divided into good/evil type. As such the story is simple. But RJ tells the simple story well and thus i enjoy it. But ultimately his characters are not really believeable.

G R R Martin books on the other hand are much more complex. There is no clearly 'Good' side or a couple of central charachters. Just when u would think that this whole series about a certain character, that character dies. Even the most 'good' characters have there glaring weaknesses while even the most 'evil' characters have some likeable points. His books in particular i find intriguing and frustrating. U truely never know where he will take u or what will happen next. He can make u hate, despite and adore his characters at the same time. As such his characters are much more believeable (in the fantasy setting) that RJs.

I await new books from both those authors eagerly
