Anyone here play football while they were in school?

Lol - I just got approached by some coach to join a local team while I was checking out cars at the local Toyota stealership 😛

I played offensive and defensive tackle in junior high and high school - dropped it when I moved here because people here in the south are too fanatical about it - it's like a religion. I was kind of flattered that he asked me, but I told him I wasn't interested - It was something I enjoyed, but I don't feel like tearing myself up again.

Anyway - any of you play during high school, or currently? 🙂

yep, receiver 11th 12th grade. played 8th-10th but was on JV.

ahaha, *FLASHBACK* we used to call one guy "shower tower" because he had a boner in the shower one morning.

good times

Yep, started at center my 11th and 12th grade years. Played LB in 9th and 10th grade. Made All-South Texas.

I went through a severly sprained ankle, two sprained knees the same week, and did something to my back during a weight lifting session. So I know what you mean about tearing your body up.

It was fun though. Lot of great memories and it was fun to knock the snot out of people. I wanted to play at the Univ of Alabama but I could never gain weight no matter how much I ate or worked out. I was perpetually stuck at 180.

8th - TE
9th - TE
10th-12th gained 20lbs and played OLB

My HS sucked tho so I wasn't ever really all that good.. .the whole team was kinda so so. I would play now for a community league or something I think that would be a ton of fun although in the South it is for sure almost a dedicated religion.

My highschool didn't even have a football team.

Lets add our moment of fame too.

We were playing our division rivals and the game was really close. This was the game that I messed up my left knee playing. Anyways, we were on defense and I broke through their line, swatted a hand off, and saved what would have been the game winning touchdown. We got the ball back and scored instead.

When I was limping off the field, one of the uber hot cheerleader came up to me and told me what a good game I had. God I miss those days.

nice! We never got to any finals but I swear nothin quite like coming thru / around the o-line and catching the qb on the blindside.. ..*shiver*. Next best thing which is great is to arrive just as he throws it b/c he has to follow thru but to do that he cannot brace for the hit.. .. yum yum

Yeah - when I was playing - my coach was my neighbor - it was fun, got together after school and practiced, BBQs, etc - made alot of great friends, and my team was #2 out of the local teams.

I moved here, showed the principle and coach my MVP trophy, awards, etc - and was told that I was pretty much guaranteed a spot on the team. I attended practice a few times, to see what it was like - but people here are totally freakin obsessed with the sh!t! I'd have to practice 2 hours before school, and from the time school let out until sun down 5 days a week - I said "Screw this" and didn't join.

My sister was also a cheerleader for my team too - so I had my own personal squad cheering for me each game 😛

I wish I could have had that, but I was always coming from right in front of him. I loved to trash talk the QB though. You knew you had got in his head when he looked at you before he looked at his receiver when they lined up.

OP.. no dount in my mind I would do it. Practice sux I know but whew the older I get football is as integrated in my life as my PC is. Talk to random ppl @ work, on the street at least once/twice a day bout different teams so if I had a chance now I would jump all over it. just my 3 1/2 cents.. .. btw im only 24 heh.. .I cant imagine @ 34

I had similar injures - sprained ankle, bad back. Both bother me even these days, at age of 24, so I'm probably stuck with them for the rest of my life. Last year of HS I also got a partial tear of the groin, which I didn't get repaired until senior year of college. As the result I couldn't play any sports in college, I couldn't even work out.

Florida is a football factory. They play pretty much year round. People are still shocked when I tell them about the "Football Class" that my Texas high school had. Basically it was either an hour of lifting weights or an hour of practicing in shirts and shoulderpads.

6-8: Offensive guard/tackle. Defensive tackle/Nose guard depending on scheme.
9: Took a year off.
10: Defensive tackle. Quit after that year, was no longer any fun.

I personally find playing it to be the most fun - I HATE watching it on TV, I don't follow any teams. Plus - I just got a promotion offer that requires me to work anywhere from 40-50 hours a week, so it wouldn't be possible 🙁 If I didn't have any fiscal responsibilities, I might think about it.

I played inside linebacker, tight end, tackle, and even had a stint at center (which i hated).
