Just looking for info from owners or people familiar with owners. I know all of the risks, background, etc. so please don't post if you're just looking to badmouth people into larger cats.

I'm pretty sure neither of those are even native to North America, let alone suitable as pets. They eat small livestock, better not let that out near any kids.

From wikipedia, made me laugh a little: "Recently, servals have been bred with the domestic cat to create a hybrid breed of domestic cat called the Savannah. These animals tend to be smaller than the serval, but retain the markings and color of the serval. These animals are more tolerant of multiple owners, are more reliably litter trained, and tend to be more social with strangers. However, because the breeding can be difficult, the first generation (F1) animals tend to remain less common and quite expensive (as cat breeds go)."

Really? You think? Throwing a domestic house cat in with one of these until one of them somehow doesn't get eaten?

F1 Savannahs are beautiful. Rather go with the source. Please don't post unless you know the topic.....posts like "don't get one" will be ignored unless you have a background with these animals and post it.

Uhm.. yeah... a serval isn't a lynx. They were fucking with it hard, and teasing it. THose fucks should NOT have one of those animals as a pet if they're looking to taunt it to get a Youtube video. That whole video makes me sad for the animal being taunted.

They are wild animals... the term wild is used for a reason. They can and will turn on people in an instant.

Instead of asking advice on a OT forum of a tech board, why not seek out a different BB geared toward raising wild cats in a domestic environment and get advice there. I could be wrong, but you aren't likely to get much support here if any.

To the uniformed, Servals make great companions. Are they a a lap cat? NO Will they knock over everything in your house? Yes. Can they make you get stitches at some point just playing? Yes. I don't ask everyone to understand, this is why i was hoping just to hear from owners. These are not cute "kittties" to sit in your lap. I know this and all or the dangers. Will it eat my domestic cat? NO. Point me in one direction that says it will. Good luck, it just doesn't happen. When you get a kitten, it sees the other cats as boss. They may fight eventually. but in my experience, they will cower.

Don't get one. It's fucking immoral to keep wild cats as pets. However, Drako's idea is a win-win. Get yourself a wolverine.

Edit: Or a hyena.

I was just seeing if anybody here had experiences with them. I've been to every resource on the web about them already. I know what they can or may do. I didn't go here to get advice on how to raise one, I know this already, just seeing if anybody had one and how its going for them.

Oh, and "Domesticated" cats are not remotely domesticated. Otherwise you wouln't see feral cats like I've seen on ranches in Texas. Our cats here are wild if they're not introduced to humans, ans Servals are the same way. Tribes in Africa have had them as pets for generations. As far as Caracals...yeah...a little more work there. Pretty, but can be very viscious.

How is this immoral. Many wild animals starve in their natural environment. To have one that gets everything it wants, to me, is not immoral. I'd never get it declawed (despite recommendations from breeders), and give it a good size house to run its ass off in. How is this immoral?

Also, they don't know that they are "wild". They don't exactly get born with a need to be in Africa. They know what they see, they still have their impulses, and you just have to work to satisfy them. I never for one moment thought that a Serval would be like raising a "normal" kitty.

I only say this because I have an extensive background with them and have been breeding them for years. I also go to court as an expert witness for Serval and Caracal cases.

Do you think I'm doing the right thing by snatching them up and moving them to my neighborhood where myself and the bazillion old folk feed them constantly? I'm a major cat lover :) Its still hurts though...cats bite HARD, lol.

Edit: I'm still bleeding. This is actually the brother/sister of the one living the good life at my parent's house. He/She bites freakin' HARD! lol I'm just sad that I scared her/him that much. They don't know.
