straight from cdrinfo.com

<< Special note HP8250 users: PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR HP8250 is identified in Windows as "HP8200+" , is made in Malaysia and has #C4464B serial number. If your drive is identified as"CD/RW 4x4x24" and has #C4464A serial number then it is based upon Phillips CDD4201 (The faceplate on these drives were usually charcoal in color) and this hack WILL NOT WORK! DON'T TRY IT! >>

Let me repeat again:

If your drive is identified as"CD/RW 4x4x24" and has #C4464A serial number then it is based upon Phillips CDD4201 (The faceplate on these drives were usually charcoal in color) and this hack WILL NOT WORK! DON'T TRY IT!

seems silly to overclock it, i would be worried about the quality of the discs it produces

this sucks bad now i wanted to oc it cuz i heard cds are fine it wont realy change the quality at all becasue in retrospect all the users that have one have had great results so i dont see why it cant be overclocked even though its a diff model thier is like no hardware hack ic an use...but the point is the drive is actually the same model as the 9300i just diff firmware

Well as it is the actual firmware that allows the overclock, this would be logical...
