I'm interested in the $250 Toshiba at BB for Black Friday...it's got less RAM and only a DVD/CD-R combo drive

holy crap that is a hot ass deal. damn how early do you think you have to get there to get into that line? i would really like to get that for my GF :)

Very early, before 9PM.

BB will already be extremely busy with their $379 HP laptop and $479 Westinghouse 32" LCD.

It says the sale starts @ 5 AM - I'd suspect (hope?) that if I showed up at that time I'd be able to snag one of them.

I seriously hope you're joking. You are correct the store opens at 5AM but there will already be 200-600 people waiting in line. So by the time you get in the store around 5:20 AM, everything you want will have already sold out.

I see, thanks. :) I've never done the Black Friday shopping before, and am trying to get an idea of how much waiting would be required. I assumed that such an early opening would deter some shoppers (actually I assumed it would deter most, but apparently not enough).

LOL Nope. A lot of these shoppers are veteran BF shoppers who have done this before.

With the BF media exposure this year + BB's 7 hour sale I wouldn't be surprised if people started lining up at 4PM. They'll be in line for 13 hours which IMHO isn't worth it.

Thanks for the feedback. You're absolutely correct, that time commitment isn't worth the deal.

I've convinced my boss to get this laptop. He's completely computer illiterate, completely. But he's a comedian, and surprisingly he's missing out by not being connected to the world. He got scammed by companies before trying to sell him on building his webpage, so wants hands on control (or the illusion of control) over his online affairs.

I think this laptop will fit him nice. He'll dig into computing and get it in a matter of weeks-months...he's got nothing else to do...

I have one and it's great. It does what I need it to do, homework and surf the net. I upgraded it to 1.5GB of RAM and it's running fine and dandy. The only problem I have is, as mentioned before, that the 4cell battery has a horrendous life at about 1hr and 15 mins. Great for an entry level laptop. And I didn't even get the free printer either!

Damn, I have the small battery too (because I like the cosmetic look) and I get 3+ hours on a single charge. I've had ~6 hours if I turn the brightness all the way down.

I have to admit, that I don't do much with it but browse the web wirelessly. I am running Mandriva 2007. I am sure I'd get better life under Windows.
