Upgrading a PC is "cost effective???" You need to have near the fastest cpu, ram, board, and video card to get a better visual experience than an Xbox... Presuming you don't have a HDTV, in which case nothing beats playing games on your couch in front of a HDTV.
And not even the highest end PC sound card and speakers can match a decent 5.1 Dolby Digital setup. The Xbox completely owns the PC in the audio dept.
I have Ghost Recon for both my PC (which is no slouch) and my Xbox. But I much prefer gaming from my easy chair, in front of my 32" TV with 5.1 DD surround sound, than sitting in a desk chair (inches away from my monitor), hunched over my kb and mouse.
And btw... There are a ton of games that I can play on the consoles that you cannot play on the PC. Sports games, platformers, fighting games, etc. just aren't supported on the PC.
Like I said in another thread... You keep your closed mind, and I'll keep playing great titles while you limit your possibilities.
