Anyone here move from iPhone to Android?

Yeah, that was some bullshit when I found out. But, they realized they can make a shitload of money this way, and also that people like me who stream netflix on the 3g network are using several GB of data.

Their new plans top out at $45 for 4GB. I pay $30 for unlimited, why in the hell would I switch?

Edit: I also considered jumping to Verizon bc I think AT&T are being rather shitty about that. But just a little digging revealed that Verizon actually intends to do the same thing. I think they are offering their $29.99 unlimited plan just to siphon off AT&T users and then rape them the same way AT&T is trying.

My 32gb 3GS is still cranking right along. My only complaint with iOS is that for whatever reason, the iPod function has become somewhat laggy when shuffling through my 4,680 songs lol. That, and they moved the track back and track forward buttons closer to the play/pause button when I play streamed podcasts... so I am constantly going to the end or begininng when I mean to pause... Other than that, the phone has been wonderful. Battery still goes a few days so long as I stay away from heavy internet usage, and surprisingly with no case and many, many gashes and dings from me dropping it... it still works. Of course, since I am partially deaf because of the phone, the earpeace for talking on the phone could stand to be quite a bit louder... Hopefully it hangs on until the 5 comes out, since I have no desire to get a 4.

FWIW, I have played with several Android phones and was never impressed with the phones or Android itself. Sure the GPS IMO was way better, but I also don't use it all that often. It was pretty much the only thing that I saw as a standout win for the Droid phones. I also don't care for the fact that most of them are the size of a Gameboy...

I'm quite happy with the 3gs but I really want to restart my 2 year counter. Every month I'm unsubsidized is a month I'm pissing money away.

Well my contract is up in August, but I'm not 100% that I'm going to get another iPhone, or any smartphone for that matter. Mostly because I work in downtown Sacramento and have pretty good 3G speeds in the monring, but towards lunch and later it's next to impossible to stream anything audio or video... Seeing as how I sit in front of a PC all day long, its getting harder to justify the data plan... especially when you add it all up over 2 years. I may end up just keeping the phone and turning off the data, since I like everything else about it.

Hi Redfraggle - Sorry if you've gotten incorrect info. So long as you aren't adding a tethering plan you can keep unlimited data if you upgrade to another smartphone, even if it's 4G, like the Motorola ATRIX, HTC Inspire or Samsung Infuse.


I posted on AT&Ts facebook page to see if I could get a direct answer, and this is what they said. So, it seems that the store employees are either ignorant, being encouraged to get people off that plan, or the person posting on their facebook page is wrong.

You have to buy Navigation on an iPhone, which of course, is vastly superior to Google Navigation.

Google Navigation's freeness was the only thing I missed going from an Android phone over to an iPhone.

I was looking at a friends samsung. Screen was bigger and sharper than the 3gs. Liked the alphabetized contacts A - Z column on the samsung. Apple needs to add that feature in a software update. But that was about it for the samsung. And while I hated iTunes and the iPhone marriage at first, I've gotten use to iTunes. Plus I have all these iPhone apps I've paid for over the years. And they work with other apple stuff, like the iPad. If you have a Imac, iPad, then its best to stick with Apple stuff. I didn't see any real lure to dump an iphone for an Android.

i bought that $68 7" android 2.2 chinese special to try out android - spose if the hacked rom and marketplace work - i will get to see how great it is. Like using the ios 4.2 with the iphone 3G with multitasking/background on - you find out really how well designed the software is when sub-par hardware is running the platform.

how many devices do you get to use the apps on with android? 5? 100? all? like if i buy angry birds legit can i use it on my 1 login that i share with 10 devices?

every android phone comes with navigation included. never used the tomtom or navigon apps while i had my iphone but google nav is very good

Uh huh... ya know 98% of statistics are made up on the spot right? Any proof of that number or is it just rocketing out of your ass?

I use a lot of iphone apps, and I'm starting to use a lot of Android apps on a tablet... there are still many MANY more apps that are NOT on Android than those that are.

I would also like to say I bought Navigon for my iphone and think it's worth the premium. There's a lot of little things that you get used to having that are hard to do without once you use them.

Went from an iPhone 3G to an HTC Inspire last month. ATT. I was interested in getting a new 16GB iPhone, but I wasn't interested in paying the $200 to do it. The Inspire cost me $50 and I couldn't be happier. The screen is massive, the features are great, and really the only thing I'm missing is a game I got into on my iPhone called Original Gangstaz. For whatever reason it's not available on Android, just Apple.

I've got HD Video, an 8 mega pixel camera, flash, basically everything I wanted is in this phone. I was worried about construction quality as I've seen and felt some plastic-y feeling Droids, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The Inspire is very sturdy - it may be aluminum or some sort of molded compound that feels like aluminum. Whatever it is, it doesn't feel at all cheap or plastic-y.

Further, my bill is $10 less a month.

I'll probably never go back to iPhones unless I get one for free. There are just too many good Androids these days for much less.

Some? yes, but most no. I have about 50 apps on my iPod Touch and only about 7 of them are available for Android.

Yes I got an Atrix and kept my old unlimited data plan too, no change.

Got the Evo 4G last halloween and it's way better than the 3GS it replaced. Might be cause Sprint is way better in my area than AT&T. I noticed a post earlier about battery life, making 1 simple adjustment to the mobile data feature constantly polling made my battery life shoot up. I get a full day usage (including angry birds, talking, and texting) on a single charge.

i said the most commonly used apps are on both platforms. i like the app store a lot better than the android market which is why i have an ipad 2 and not a xoom or one of the other android tablets. in fact after 3 months with an android phone i'll never buy something expensive with android on it. way worse than the whole PC deal back in the 1990's

I have both the iPhone 4 and HTC Thunderbolt and i only use the Thunderbolt for work and that's about it. I enjoy my iPhone 4 a lot. Im even thinking of getting a iPad but can't justify it yet.
