anyone here living outside the U.S. and tried purchasing a Playstation 2 online without a credit card on Sony or any other affiliated legal sites? how did you do it? and how much would it cost me if im living in southeast Asia including shipping and handling? and is it reliable and safe and is the unit complete and all original no modification whatsoever?
 
Well I'll save you a LOT of frustration here 🙁

UNLESS you have a US credit card - issued here with a US billing address, then in 99.999999% of the times you want to order - it can't be done 🙁

I moved here from Hong Kong in April 2001 and had the same problem - even although I was living here. I was trying to use my HSBC credit card you see. You can use a "foreign" credit card here no problem so long as you are physically signing the authorisation - they won't accept it otherwise though.

If you want a PS2 I'd suggest you try to source one in Hong Kong - they normally accept orders using a CC cards from any country.
 
you mean that if i have no credit card i cant order one? is there a way for example send in cash? or apply in a local bank that has a capability of international transfers
 
i don't live outside the US (at least not at this time), and i strongly suggest against sending cash / fund transfer to buy something online ... it's better to get someone you know well (who lives in the state) to get the money you'd transfer, then buy the unit for you and ship it all the way down there....

if you have credit card from your country, as long as it's a major credit card (amex, visa, master), i'm sure most stores accept them.. for example, i think amazon does (correct me if i'm wrong)... some stores may also accept international money order.. but again, do not use wire transfer ... it's dangerous (yah, i know most established stores won't cheat you this way, but you can never be too sure)

why would you buy one from here anyway? i'm sure some stores in asia (eg: singapore) sell region 1 (us) ps2 units without modifications ... yah, it may be a bit more expensive, but it will save you some hassles

and you can be 98% sure that the ps2 (and other consoles) sold in the states are modification free ....

If you don't have a CC then I think it would certainly be more difficult to process the transaction.
However as mentioned before - if you don't have a US CC then it won;t be processed either more often than not anyway 😉

The other thing you might find that makes the deal less palatable would be the shipping costs to you country (which is?).

I thought about buying some RAM a year or so ago - the cost of shipping the ram was something ridiculous like US$80. 😉

Postage from the US is quite reasonable but most online shops are tied to Fedex/UPS etc so the cost will normally be higher than your expectation - shipping orders within the USA is very reasoanble though.

If you can't source a PS2 in Asia - I would suggest that you e-mail the online stores you would like to purchase the PS2 from and ask them for advice regarding payment from overseas.

Remember that a very common attitude over here is that NOTHING exists outside of the USA 😉
