Anyone here lives in or near Maine?

Unless there is construction, the route I always took from White Plains was the 84/86 route from Danbury area through Hartford, coming out on I 90 east of Springfield. 10 miles on I90/Ma Like and the hop off at Worchester and buzz up the 495. From there to the north shore and I95. Little traffic issues except rolling through Hartford, everything else gets bypassed. (New Haven, Providence & Boston)

Just figure out how to get up to White PlainsB-)

Coming from NYC. So the toll fee is only once? In NJ tolls are like every hundred yards or so. Also, what about Massachusetts and NH? Are the tolls also only once? Is there some type of toll calculator online somewhere for trips?

In NH, the toll is only once in each direction. MA and NH it depends on how far on the turnpike you go.

Each of these roads has their own toll calculator.

Mass toll used to be about $0.12/mile.
$14 from Pittsfield to Rt 128. And then $0.75 to Chinatown. (2000)

I'm heading to Maine this weekend and I hear you can catch lobsters for free. I want to catch a couple and bring them back to New York. Is there anywhere in particular I have to go?

Also, does anyone have any idea how much it'll cost to go there in highway toll fees? I'm debating whether to get the E-Z Pass from the rental company. It's $24/day.

I live in Portsmouth NH, which is about as close to being in Maine without being in the state. I spend my summers in Maine and have relatives up there too.

That said, you are SOL. To get a non-commercial lobstering license in Maine you have to be a resident of Maine. Best to go on a lobstering tour if you are determined to catch one of the buggers yourself. Otherwise go to a lobster pound and save yourself the hassle. If you want to take a nice boat trip, there are several good tours of the Casco bay that float out of Portland.

Dari where are you starting from? fastest way is going to be get to the Mass pike (90) in the quickest way possiable

once on the mass pike get off on 290 (worchester) and take it to 495 then to 95. take 95 into maine

you can take 84 all the way to 90, it should be faster than going up 91

QFT - just try not to be on 495 between 3 and 6 PM. Traffic by Lowell MA can be a nightmare.

Just wanted to thank everyone here for the help given in going to Maine. I completely forgot. My wife and son loved it. But, I have to say, Maine is a huge fucking state. I made the mistake of getting a hotel in Augusta and traveling to Acadia national park. Big mistake. And things can get really dark on those country roads. But it was worth it. Bar Harbor was picturesque and Portland was nice. Got some local beer there for the road and some cheese at the cabot farm store. Next time I think I'll take public transportation.

Also, lobsters are nice but they're EVERYWHERE. I got tired of it quick but now I miss it. I'm sure the state has other local cuisines for tourists to try.
