I tried the crest strips, but they make so much contact with the gums that my teeth get ridiculous sensitive. So I went to the dentist to have some trays molded, and i love them. My teeth don't get nearly as sensitive since they minimize the amount of gel on the gums, and they don't interfere with my day at all because I wear them while I sleep. Another nice thing about the trays is that they last for many years so you can just get another tube of gel and do a touch up.

awesome. maybe i will get some trays made. i also tried the crest whitestrips and they made my teeth feel all funny. they worked great, but only for a couple months, then my teeth were back to their normal color.

i found the strips to be uncomfortable, i tried a gel they had, but was too lazy to put it on

my sister had a mold made years ago....proabably lost it by now. spent 400 bucks on the mold...but only got one done for her uppers (still cant figure that out) so she had, for a while, a perfect white row of teeth on top

and an average (and comparatively rather off-white) row on the bottom :)

Nope. and it's not bleach, it's some kind of peroxide. Some people like me get increased tooth sensitivity or tingling for a few hrs after doing it though.

What are the risks to professional/tray teeth whitening in terms of tooth/enamel damage?

As far a long term effects I am not aware of any significant damage. In the short term there can be tooth sensitivity, soft tissue damage from chemical burns, and rarely there can be a feeling that your teeth are "chalky". These all go away with time.

i did the crest white strips and i would like to say i was really impressed. i did not get any of the sensitivity others have gotten and my teeth were noticeably whiter and it lasted for a long time. i am thinking of doing it again seeing as it has been like 2 years since the last time i used them but for me they worked wonderfully

Sensitive teeth can be a problem. The type of bleach that I use is Opalescence PF. The PF stands for potassium fluoride and seems to help with sensitivity. Also I would suggest using a high fluoride toothpaste, such as Sensadyne, during bleaching. If you naturally have sensitive teeth and things like cold water are a constant problem then I would suggest talking with your dentist about this. There is a product that I love called Sooth Rx that is a 2 week treatment followed up by a once a week touch up that pretty much gets rid of sensitivity problems. Many times I have patients "pre-load" with sooth Rx to get ready for bleaching.

I would recommend take home trays so that if the bleach is bothering you after one day, then you can stop.

Hope that helps.

I had good results with GoSmile. I'd only been using it for several days when a friend asked me if I had gotten my teeth whitened....

Never used anything else for comparison though so I cant really say how well it compares to anything else out there.

is teeth enamel color completely dependent on how well you take care of your teeth? i guess my question is do some ppl just have darker teeth enamel? or maybe diet?

I had great results with the 10-day Crest White Strips (not the 14-day Classic). Really made a difference, and people commented about it all the time.
