I had an ant farm when I was a kid, and I've always found them interesting. It's the kind of thing that I think would be neat if I could be sure they wouldn't escape and/or kill me, but I don't see myself doing anything beyond a normal ant farm. Some people get grossed out by them, but I've always thought of them as nature's little robots.

Anyway, I came across this guy's video and I was wondering if anyone here keeps ants. This guy seems pretty serious about it. I can't imagine the tens of thousands of fire ants he has escaping....

I've been watching this guy's channel for about 6 months now. It's really getting me interested. This guy is a marketing genius - selling the hobby instead of the products. I can only imagine how much his online store is picking up.

We keep cage free ants in our kitchen.

Same. They venture into other rooms now and then scavenging, but return to the kitchen on their own usually. If not, i get my cats to drive them back to the kitchen so they can keep cleaning up after me.

I always had a lot of interest in ants as a child, but I was never able to have a successful colony that was clean and not a mess, but while pricey these guys have some of the best stuff (https://tarheelants.com/).

A few years ago I was finally was able to have a solid colony from scratch but eventually it got to big so I had to let them move in the back yard after about 4 months in captivity.

Moved into a larger home, but after about 4 months I had to let them go in the back yard:

I don't know why anyone would willingly let fire ants into their house. :confused2:

Had a cheap one as a kid. At some point the regular sugar ants found out and it caused a war between them and the fire ants. Fire ants had physical strength and a defensive position, but the sugar ants were too numerous.

Ants are cool as hell.

I left out a pizza and the next morning I had 2,000 ants all over the pizza. They were moving the crumbs to their hideout. Cool stuff.

I left out a few small crumbs and again they came out in droves. I noticed 2-3 ants just walking about. They must be the scouts.
