I know saitek is decently respected, but my 'flying game' experience has come from Tie Fighter and Battlefield, using a Logitech stick, so I guess I'm no expert. :p

X52 is now the standard for stick/throttle sets. Tons of people have them. I have the older X45, but may upgrade sometime soon. There are just no other sticks in that price range.

As for games, if you play WWII sims then it's definitely IL-2, but Battle of Britain (same makers) should be coming out within a year. Stay clear away from MS combat sims. For civilian flying, MS flight sim is probably best. As for jet sims, I would say that LOMAC is the best one out there right now.

With MS flight sim you can fly absolutely everything, but there's no obviously no combat.

Oh, and I also play a lot of BF2. Can I use the stick/throttle for flying in BF2?

Saitek and Thrustmaster are the only ones I would buy, thrustmaster is better but more expensive.

I used to be a flight sim junkie, but after EA bought Janes there hasn't been any good ones out in a while except the falcon series.

kind of a similar question; I am decently informed when it comes to games but I NEVER hear of good combat flight sims. It seems that this could be huge if done right. Are there any really good ones out there? Like ones that would warrent the purchase of a joystick setup?

And if they arnt there then why the H not. :p

I prefer single stick sets but alot of people love the stick/throttle sets. For stick/throttle sets the X52 is great for a single stick I like the saitek cyborg evo. For games IL2 is great and the MS combat sims are decent, if you aren't looking for combat MS flight sim is second to none.

There used to be some great sims that would be released. There haven't been any for a while. I play Falcon 4.0: Allied Force, but it's dated.

I'm a big CH Products supported; been using them for years. Currently I have the Fighterstick USB, Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals. They work great and feel super.

BTW, a throttle really won't do you any good in BF2. You're either on the throttle or you're off of it, there is no variable thrust in the game. I use 'W' for thrust, 'S' for decreasing thrust and 'Shift' for Afterburner. Then, I use the Fighterstick and Pro Pedals for the other movements.

I'm still waiting for the sim that can offer the hours of gameplay that the old Sierra Dynamix "Aces" series did (Red Baron, Aces over Europe, Aces over the Pacific). Man that was a great series. Not as realistic as some of the newer sims, but the career mode was great and it was easy to step into and fly for an hour or so and just de-stress with it.

i'm not sure i would spend much money on joysticks considering the severe lack of any decent games for the genre.
