Anyone here have the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 2.0s?

I've had my eye on these since they came out, my dell lcd speakers are starting to act up (they dont like the volume level I occasionally put them through :( ) and I live in an apartment so I dont really need a subwoofer. I use headphones alot too.

I like the Klipsch 2.0 and 2.1 systems but wonder what people think of the 2.0.

I've had Logitech Z560s in the past and found the bass way too boomy and not tight enough. I also am not a fan of not having tweeters as I value my high end as much as the lower ranges.

So I think I'm pretty much stuck with either the 2.1 or 2.0 Klipsch. Open to opinions from those who own the 2.0 or any other suggestions.

Swans M200, Altec Lansing MX5021, Refurbed I-Fi, Klipsch Promedia 2.1. Those are the main 2.1 speakers in the 200 range. If you can extend to $200, get the M200 or the refurbed I-Fis.

What do you think of the MX5020s? Anyone own them?

Or the Klipsch 2.0 for that matter? I really like Klipsch because Im a fan of their 2.1 system, but have enjoyed my altec lansing systems in the past. Logitech is the only one really off the list due to their boomy bass and lack of true tweeters.

Ok so the MX5020s, Klipsch 2.0 are kinda what I have my eyes on.

If im going to take it up a step to the 2.1, the Altec FX6021 look like they have no equal for a 2.1 setup? Anyone heard these?
I'm not a fan of 4.1 or 5.1 after my Z560 experience, and those look like they might be a bit more immersive than the other (klipsch 2.1/mx5021) 2.1 sets?

Back to the 2.0 speakers only... from an asthetic standpoint, the MX5020 (or 5021) appear to be the thinnest, and sharpest looking speaker.

Well, I don't think it's so much about being loud. You could get speakers that will get extremely loud for under $100. Paying more gets you better quality mainly, not necessarily volume.

I have the MX5021, and I find them to be excellent, but its control pod is glitchy.

As for 2.1, the best in the range is the I-Fi, which should outclass even the FX6021. They cost $400 retail, but you can get them refurbished for $200, and I think one place sold them new for $200.

I guess I meant loud and clear. Something cheap speakers and amps dont do, in my experience. I would wager the swans can pump out some ear splitting volume (yet remain clear).

Yeah, I think it was either Sam's Club or Costco that had them new for that price.

Looks like Klipsch doesn't have any in stock at the moment http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=974

Found this review that directly compares the MX5020 to the Klipsch 2.0.

Looks like trusty klipsch is the way to go for 2.0 according to these guys. But they do note they are pretty close

I've got the MX5020s as laptop travel speakers, and my room mate uses the Klipsch Promedia 2.0s. I would say the two are very close in the midrange/highs, although the review you read is accurate in that the bass is a bit more loose in the MX5020s. The piano black finish is excellent though, compared to the plain plastic of the Klipsch 2.0s. The difference was he paid retail, and I paid $20 on craigslist :D

Yeah I'd have to go with whatever pair is cheaper from everything I've learned about these two sets.

With equal pricing, I'd have to give the nod to the Klipsch. But the piano black finish would look pretty sharp. So its really a draw given equal pricing.

Everywhere I've looked, it appears the MX5020 can be had cheaper than the Klipsch. I do think the Altec uses a power brick though, while the Klipsch does not?

If I was to go 2.1 someday, I'd probably go for the regular old Klipsch 2.1. The FX6021 looks nice but I have a hard time leaving the old standards for something I've never heard.

The MX5020 is about $75 retail now in a lot of outlets. Altec Lansing has more products and higher volume in the lower end ($100 and below) markets so there are quite a few deals to be had.

Altec uses a power brick, just like the Klipsch. The Altec is a 1250mwA while the Klipsch is 834mwA, which is probably why the Klipsch has a lower total power output compared to the Altec.

The regular old Klipsch 2.1 is no longer in production, and I'm not sure the satellites could keep up with the current lineup of $100 2.0 satellites. If you want to get a $200 2.1 option, you'd have to be almost insane NOT to pick the Klipsch 2.1 iFi : P (unless some other company pulls a similar stunt and puts in mini-bookshelves as computer satellites).

While they may not show online at their website, they do have an ebay store and it looks like their current auction has about 20 left. Just make sure you're dealing's with klipschstore.
