Thanks...I think. haha
If the thech comes Monday and either can't repair it or needs more time then yeah we will be forced to pull the trigger on the GE I linked to in my OP. With my wifes family coming in from OH for TG we can't wait any longer than that. Shermans offers same or next day delivery on any in-stock appliance and they price match all the box stores and any reputable online appliance store.
Can't wait until BF though because by then it will be to late.

If we are forced to purchase the GE but the LG gets repaired then we list the LG on marketplace or CL and keep the GE.
Black Friday has basically already started for most retailers. I didn't look at the details, but both Lowe's and Costco are offering $300 back on the purchase of this fridge.

To circle back to your original question, the customer reviews of this specific model are excellent on Home Depot and Lowe's web sites. One good thing is I don't see a through-door ice dispenser; those are notorious for becoming a servicing issue.

Does LG make anything good? Their phones were shit. Multiple generations of motherboard problems. I'll give any maker the benefit of doubt for a bad release, but when it happens over and over, they have a real problem. I wouldn't buy anything made by LG no matter how awesome people say it is.

Two words.....Never again.

The dishwasher started making a grinding noise six weeks ago, then the refrigerator failed, and within the past week the range started acting up. All were purchased in 2020 so we had matching appliances. Ya know because we wanted to be "fancy" like that.

At this point I'm with @RPD ......fuck LG and the horse they rode in on.

I've had GE Profile stuff, and it's as adequate as anybody else's stuff. I remember the microwave door felt a little flimsy compared to the Whirlpool unit it was replacing, but that was a cheaper model. Never had any fail inside the warranty period, though, so I can't tell you if their service is better than LG's.

Everybody's stuff breaks eventually. Don't get too hung up on brands - they're probably all made by the same 2-3 companies anyway.

A good friend of mine did a bunch of research a couple years ago and ended up going with an LG fridge. Apparently they're one of the better brands, but everyone's stuff breaks.
Since LG's appliances service is worst in the industry, I can tell you that GE's is better. :p

FWIW LG does make the best OLED panels.

Man fuck LG. I don't care if they do anything good.

They could come out with that thing in Star Trek were it creates food out of thin air I don't remember the the name but you know what I'm talking about but anyway they could invent that thing and I still wouldn't buy it. Why? because the fucking thing would fail within three years and it would take forever to get them to repair it.

This, I love this energy. I have the same when a company fucks me over unfairly.

Yeah my dad is an avid CR reader and told me the same thing. After having two of the three LG appliances I purchased fail(refrigerator and dishwasher)within three years of purchase it is safe to say I will never purchase or recommend an LG appliance again.

Between the refrigerator and dishwasher failing this whole experience with LG has left such a bad taste in my mouth it is probably safe to say I will never purchase anything LG not just appliances.

Anyway, he said the same thing you mentioned that if LG is a no go then give GE a try that's why I'm asking about GEs Profile series.
Really if reliability was my top priority I'd lean towards Whirlpool. That said my family has had good luck with GE refrigerators.

I have a GE Adventium "microwave" (really a speed oven), I love it, but my first one died after 5 years. Apparently a relay stuck closed and the microwave kept running if the door was shut, babysitter let it run for 3 hours and fried it. I replaced the magnetron multiple times but there was something else wrong I couldn't trace. I've had the replacement for nearly 4 years without issues.

I have never seen Frigidaire come out on top in an appliance review. I own a Frigidaire range but I would not buy another.

Consumer Reports seems to heavily favor Samsung and LG. I think because of the warranty. CR seems to think it's OK for an appliance to break while under warranty because the repair is free, but It's really not. You lose hundreds of dollars in food and spend weeks waiting for a repair person while spending hundreds eating out each night.
CR just seems like trash to me. Until they actually publish their data I put very little faith in their conclusion.

One last update before this goes to sleep in the archives.

After 17 days without having a refrigerator a competent authorized LG tech arrived and repaired the refrigerator under warranty. I'm glad it is repaired and we didn't have to go purchase another refrigerator but on the other hand I'm left wondering why the hell did it take this long.

There are a lot of modern conveniences that you can go without for 17 days but refrigeration is one that I would not recommend trying.

Oh have I got a pretty good broken refrigerator story when I get to a keyboard. Weeks without a fully working fridge. And five failed delivery attempts for the same exact size fridge.

Good news. Where we live, NONE of the manufacturers have an "authorized service" repair place...so I have to (hopefully) get one of the very few repair places to vome fix it on my dime...then submit the receipts for reimbursement...and hope my cost doesn't exceed their repair estimate.
I bought a new Samsung washer/dryer from Costco when we first moved here...washer started making weird noises. Contacted Samsung, they told me they would replace it, but it was on me to remove the pedestal from the old one, move the washer to my garage, then when the replacement was delivered, the driver would pick it up and I was responsible for moving the new one back into the house, reinstalling the pedestal, hooking everything back up, and testing it.
Fuck that. Called Costco. Since it was within the first 90 days, they sent a whole new set...washer and dryer, both pedestals...their crew removed the old ones, installed the new ones.

I've been following this thread for about a month since my wife has been researching her new refrigerator purchase since last Christmas season. The behemoth Samsung fridge they stuffed in this galley kitchen of the house we bought has been on its last legs for at least a year.

The Frigidaire counter-depth unit she ordered Wednesday

She got it for $2200 out the door. So basically the tax, haul away, delivery, and installation are what ate up some of the discounts.

The website said delivery would be December 16th, they called her today and said the delivery would be January 12.

I echo the sentiments regarding Samsung and LG. Feature heavy, quality mediocre, tend to wear out or have critical components fail which cost more to repair than buying a new one (but I repeat myself). I'm shifting towards a mindset of function specific rather than brand as I get more experience as a homeowner.

Yeah tell me about it....it's difficult to choose between purely functional and feature heavy. The sweet spot can be hard to find.

For fridges, the only feature I want is "makes stuff cold". Two numbered dials, one for the fridge, one for the freezer. I slowly dial them back til my ice cream's firm and my drinks are cold, then never look at it again for the next 30 years.
