Cant get my friends to work right. He has a hd dvr box from directv and its not hooked to a tv. So I have the slingbox hooked into the network thru his 4 port wireless router. I have the slingbox connexted to the rcvr using s-vid cable (Tried the r/w/y rca cables first). Not working. Anything I need to know or check on?

I believe you have to designate which input on the slingbox you're using through the setup program. It's been a while since I've set one of these up so I'm just doing it from memory...

does it sound like I have it correct? It seems pretty straightforward. After you set it up thru the software how do you use it on outside pcs? is there an IP address you need to log into or something?

There's a big ole long "Slingbox Finder" string that you use when setting up other machines.

(that's for when you install the slingplayer program directly onto another machine. however, i don't bother with that, i just copy the slingbox folder from the main machine onto a usb drive and run it off of there when using other machines. it works without needing any other setup)

If you're going to access it on computers outside your home network, (which I assume you are) you're going to need to set up port forwarding on your router to allow traffic to the slingbox. Your manual should tell u what port ur using.

Thats the plan. Ill make sure to do that once I get it working within the network.

Remember that S-Video is a video cable only, so you'll still need to hook up the red/white RCAs for audio even if you use s-video.

Generally speaking, if you follow the printed hookup instructions, then the software setup install program, it will walk you through everything. You should give more details on exactly what "isn't working" if you would like a more detailed answer.

Ill try when I get in front of it again. I cant give more specifics cuz I am going off memory from what I tried. My real question is, Is it just a straightforward hook up? Looks like there isnt much to mess up. I just couldnt get the pc to see that it was connected.
