High interest, no fees, no service charges, no kidding.
With an Orange Savings Account, you earn a variable 2.30% Annual Percentage Yield (effective 01/31/03 ) on savings every day, with a level of flexibility, freedom, and security you simply won't find at other banks. And because your account is FDIC insured, your account is always secure.

No required minimum balances... ever.
There is no minimum balance required to open your Orange Savings Account, and you don't have to keep a specific balance in your account to qualify for a high interest rate. No matter how much you have on deposit, the rate is still 2.30% APY.

No fees. No service charges. No penalties. No hidden costs.
ING DIRECT's Orange Savings Account won't burden you with fees or service charges. Period. So you earn high interest on every penny you deposit.

Seems to be too good to be true... Whats the catch?

No catch. MANY people on the forums here have had 'em for years w/o any problem. Heck, my friend used to work for ING. PM me if you want a referral link. I believe we both get $25 or something. Been awhile, I can't exactly remember if this is even still going on.

Edit: Just checked, you get $25, I get $10.

No catch. They're great. I've used them for a savings account for over a year. Set up a scheduled transfer from my savings account and have made several other transfers besides. All have worked flawlessly. I've never had to call.

IIRC, the catch is that you can't do more than 5 withdrawals on that account per month or some limit on transactions. I liked it better when the APY was at 3%.. :)

No catch. I've used them for almost 2 years now...no problems whatsoever. The interest rate has always been higher than any of my money market accounts.

Heh, I wish. If that were the case I'd stop drinking weekly at the bar and put that money into savings. :)

I also have an ING account and got in on the $50 deal. The rates aren't locked, all they've done is go down since I got my account. They'll probably go back up one day. 2.30% is still higher than most savings accounts.

Yes. I have ING Direct linked to 3 other accounts. It's very simple to move money back and forth.

Just remember when you move money in you can't move it back out for 5 business days. It does accumulate interest during that time though. That's the only thing that could remotely be considered a "catch" that I've seen.

What about their CD accounts? Those give you a larger interest rate and it's locked in for the duration of the account (1 to 5 yrs, up to you at up to 3.75%). The interest rate is locked in and seeing how it'll probably keep dropping for at least a year this sounds like a good idea.
Or are there better places to put my savings if I don't plan on touching it for at least 5 yrs? I recently graduated from college and I plan on saving up $2K a month for a downpayment on a house about 5 yrs from now. Also, on the interest you gain, how much does the gov't tax from that?

thanks!
