I just picked up two Maxtor MaxLine II 250GB SATA drives for storage. I currently ONLY have one 74GB Raptor and it isn't cutting it as far as storage goes. How big is your HDD collection and how much of it is used?

Oh man...why did you go with the MaxLineII's? The new III's are currently the fastest 7200RPM drives, they use a true SATA-150 interface, have 16mb of cache, and support the new -NCQ feature. :(

As for me, I just picked up a 200GB Diamondmax10 (same drive as as the MaxIII, with only 8mb cache). If I add that to my two 120GB DM +9's, my 36GB Raptor, and my older Hitachi 40GB, I've got 516GB. Although they are all in different systems...

:)

Edit:

The only lame part is the larger the drives get, the more space you "lose" over the advertised capacity. :(

Why can't the drive makers and MS get on the same page?

Last time I made an estimate (which was a while ago), I figured I had around 8.6TB of hard drive space, The most I've got in any one machine is either a little over or a little under 2TB depending on how you count it (One 160GB drive and eight 250GB drives, but the 250s are running RAID5, so they only provide seven drives worth of effective storage.) and the second-biggest only has about one terabyte. The drives are mostly used, but I can probably make it through the next couple of weeks without having to move much off onto tape yet.

So, how far are you into Ron Jeremy's catalogue?

Guess it just goes to show you, no matter how much you think you have, someone's always got something bigger....

No....but I'm trying to get there.

Honestly, as soon as I get me a bigger case, I'm gonna have at least 4 200 sata drives.

Oh that is gonna be so nice ;)

Not at all. It's hard to get through a day without a half-dozen people telling me that I really should get into porn production and distribution, but I think that market is a lot more crowded and troublesome than most people think. Truthfully, the few people I know who are in that market aren't raking in big bucks (they do okay, but just okay), and I'd rather leave that market to the people who enjoy it.

Personally, I prefer making action/adventure movies and comedies; I certainly don't mind dramas, but those are a lot harder to sell. I'm willing to do some horror, since that's a whole lot easier to market than pretty much anything else. I don't think I could get into trying to sell porn flicks and I suspect there are potential problems with trying to be in that market and any other...whereas nobody has a problem with my selling a menu that includes horror, action, family, and any other genre.

200GB, I don't like having too many hard discs in my computer. If I start to run out of space, I know I have to clear stuff up and archive onto DVD.

He also continually says how big his e-penis is (because his connection is twice the speed of mine - even though all I think he does is download porn :/). Irony is a beautiful thing.

Yay for e-penis', and their worth.

RE: Anyone here have 500GB of storage?

Yes, I do. More than that actually.

RE: How big is your HDD collection?

2x 120gb
3x 160gb
2x 200gb
= 1160gb

4 in main system, 2 in tv system, 1 in HTPC

RE: How much if it is used?

Not at home right now to check, but I'd guess about half or a bit more.

I've got 120 right now, which is ample. If you have more you need to use something that I've found and refer to as a dvd burner.
