The markup on these things is ridiculous... $39-$40k... WTF.

Starting to shop for a car... but at this rate... i might as well keep saving. :( or buy a civic for that matter.

Wait until the demand falls off(i.e. PT cruiser) and then buy. Or look at a different car.

you are crosshopping a Civic and 350Z?? How much discount you hope to get on the Z?? 15K???
I think it can be had for under MSRP now. The G35 sedan or RX-8 are better choices IMO. 350Z is too inpractical

Hehe, I sold a new Mach I the other day for $8k over sticker, so don't feel bad. MSRP would be a good deal on a 350Z right now.....that is, if you must have the car now, of course. :D

:D no i'm not cross shopping both... but the Z is the only thing that interests me now... i have enough to buy a little civic in full right now if all i'm looking for is basic transportation. but thats what ive been driving for 6 years now... a POS car that provides me basic transportation. it's really torture for a car freak like me... and 4 seats aren't really necessary... :)

demand is a little too high right now huh?... dealers pwnz everyone... :(

What about a Sentra SE-R? Shoudln't be that expensive and it was rank #1 by edmunds when they did the pocket rocket comparo.

If you are seeing a Z car being sold over sticker price nissan should be informed. Nissan demmanded that dealership do not price gouche if not they will not get any more Z cars. I went to a few Nissan dealerships to check out the car and I was told that twice and the price was the same.

You can order one on carsdirect.com right now for $200 under sticker. Still too much markup over invoice for me, if I was in the market I'd wait a little for demand to fall off.

my brother bought the z with only $1k over sticker.

That was the rule on the dealership.

The car is a beauty to behold.

Now i can't get a z, since my brother got it, don't want to take away his display.

So now i'm going to wait for Mustang NEW model i saw the photos they look nice, however we must see how they look when arrived. Or maybe an SUV, and just mod it with extra's.

how much is typical invoice for a touring model 6 speed anyway? i don't think this will die down until competition shows up... like the rx-8... or until the novelty of having a new Z wears off... :(

If the dealer is gouging you they'll know how to get around that, with, dealer service charge, or $2000 graphics package, underbody coating, detailing, blah blah.... normally you can tell them to blow it out their a$$ but if this car is in demand then they'll get the inflated fees.

When talking to my local nissan dealer, I threw out 32K as a number for the track model. That was accepted so I'm sure you can get it for less. Invoice on the track looks like 30.4.

Boyracecar (sp?)

This dealership has several touring models on the lot. Call around and give the dealership a serious offer. If they don't accept then you can ask them what they want.

Also call dealerships with a 100 mile radius and see if any one likes your offer. If so then you can use that to pressure your local place or simply do the whole deal over the phone...

"I want a 350z touring addition with no options for 32K"
"sounds great, come on down and fill out the paper work"
"I want a red one. Get me a red 350z touring and I'll come pick it up and sign the papers"

so on so forth. Once the dealer has bitten on your offer you can ask for anything you want. Make sure you stress "This is very easy...Do you want to sell a car today? If so then you'll accept my offer. I'm not going to dick around I just want to buy a car. Do you want to sell a car?"

-edit- technically I didn't "get" the car for 32K, but it was a verbal deal and after some research and insurance I'll be purchasing it.

I got $800 off, after quite a bit of haggling. So far, I am the *only* one who got such a deal from all my local dealers. They have no trouble selling them at MSRP. The only reason I got a deal was because I a) went to the salesman on a referral and b) offered one dealership the opportunity to take business from another.

He made me swear to secrecy about my deal. I ordered my vehicle (Daytona Blue Performance 6MT), and it will be here in about 60 days.

The wait is killing me, but it will be worth it :D

:D this makes me want to go out and just finance the car... :) i was just surveying how the market looks like right now... i intend to pay the car in full so that means i have at least 1/3 of the car to save up for still :(... i just needed a starting point as to how low i could actually go... but thanks... i'll keep those points in mind... :) but dealers around my area are notorious for the bait and switch method... :( in a few months i'll probably have more choices... hopefully. :D

LOL!

Well I'm pretty good at negotiations and have to do it for my job. But I was almost "bait and switched" once on the last car. I didn't even see it coming. Thank goodness I caught it before I purchased the car.
